Registry cleanup freezes

I am having continued problems with the registry cleanup freezing at 10% file system scan progress.  I have contacted a chat rep at Norton who used a remote link to uninstall and reinstall Norton 360 v 3.0, as well as deletie some files (I assume corrupted)  I.  After all this, I was instructed to try it again, and the exact same thing happens; the system freezes at 10-13% progress and my computer overall slows down to a crawl. I’ve seen this similar situation appear on the forum but I can’t find a post where someone has had it actually fixed…

If that does not work, perform the following steps:

 

1. Run the command chkdsk /f from Command Prompt.
2. Restart the computer.
    Check Disk will complete successfully when you start the computer.
3. Start Norton 360 Version 3.0.
3. Run Registry Cleanup Scan.

I've tried both of these approaches.  The method from the knowledge base didn't appear to change anything, but the second option resulted in my registry cleaner successfully proceeding to 100% of the System File Scan; however, at that point nothing else happens, and the program appears to freeze and no registry errors are actually fixed.

You are also running Safenet Sentinel.  If this is also scanning in real time, it would explain a number of things. All antivirus engines come with tamper protection so that they can't be disabled by malware.  I suspect that SS is taking exception to Norton do things with its files. 

 

You should not have two antivirus engines running on the same machine.  Free versions work very well for on-demand scans for cross-checking purposes.
