Remote Desktop and Unused Port Blocking

I am using WIndows 7 Pro and NIS 2010.

Tonight I decided to used Remote Desktop between my two computers and cannot get them to connect.

I am certain that I hve everything enabled properly in both computers, but get the meesage that it cannot connect.  I created a firewall rule to allow port 3389 from any computer.  This didn't help.

The latest hings that I saw was the connection being blocked by "Default Block EPMAP".

After Resetting the firewall i get  "Unused port blocking has blocked  INbound TCP Communication from ... (port 3389)."

Any ideas?

Hi ffaron,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

What version of NIS 2010 do you have? You can get this from Help & Support > About. Is your OS 32 or 64 bit?

Are you trying to do remote desktop between two computers on your home network or via the internet? If via the internet do you use VPN or is it a direct connect? If you use VPN which client is it?

I use remote desktop to connect to my work computer very frequently and have never had a problem. NIS created an automatic firewall rule to allow the VPN client to connect.

Are you able to connect if you temporarily disable the firewall on one or both computers? Are you sure you have remote desktop enabled on the target computer?

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Allen

I'm using version 17.8.05.

My problem is with two computers on my home netword.  I have tried disabling the firewall on both machines.  I'll try the trust setting next.

Thanks

Hi ffaron,

If you have disabled the firewall on both computers and still cannot connect via RDP then it is extremely unlikely that NIS has anything to do with the problem.

Can you double check that your Windows firewall is still OFF? Also you might want to check your router firewall as well.

Let us know how the trust change works out but I don't think that is where the problem is.

Best wishes.
