I have used Remote Desktop since upgrading to 360 v4. Last week I began getting "Unable to connect to computer" errors. Nothing has changed on my machine or the business server I connect to, Firewall history shows "An instance of Windows\system32\mstsc.exe is preparing to access the internet." Status is detected. My Firewall rules show a Program Rule for Remote Desktop - Allow.
I have reset the Smart Firewall without RD connect. I have disabled Smart Firewall without RD connect. How do I resolve this problem? My system is XP Pro SP3 with Remote Desktop 6.
Welcome to the Norton Community.. What is your exact version of N360 from Help & Support > About?
If I understand you correctly you have disabled the firewall in N360, is this correct? If this did not make a difference in the problem then it is highly unlikely to be an issue with N360. Please clarify if you did this.
Can you check to make sure that the Windows firewall did not become active?
My 360 is Version: 4.2.0.12. I tried with the Norton firewall off, and the Microsoft firewall off - still no connection. I guess my next plan is to uninstall and remove Norton. If I can't connect with Remote Desktop it's a Microsoft issue. If I can, then I'll reinstall Norton 360 and try to configure the firewall.

HI Brian,
Thanks very much for the update. Are you sure no changes were made at the company, perhaps in the corporate firewall?
I'll look forward to further updates.
BTW, I also use Remote Desktop pretty heavily working from home and also connect through a VPN tunnel, using NIS firewall (basically the same as N360's firewall) and never have a problem.
Another thought. Do you by any chance have a second computer on your home network running a supported version of Windows which has Remote Desktop? If so you could test by doing a Remote Desktop session between those two and it would eliminate the "business network" variable.
I uninstalled Norton and still couldn't connect with Remote Desktop, I finally found my third firewall - in my Westell DSL modem. I apparently disabled the Remote Desktop port when I upgraded my Verizon software. With the Westell set to low, Remote Desktop works fine.
