Removal tool saying have to uninstall winfax pro, but it's nowhere to be found!

I'm trying to install Norton 360 on my son's computer (the previous Norton Security 2010 has expired).  I've ran the Norton removal tool successfully on my other 2 computers and installed 360.  However, on my son's computer it says that Winfax pro is present and must be removed before the removal tool will work.

I have been to Control Panel, add/remove programs, but winfax pro is not in the list at all.  I have also explored Program files - again, Winfax pro is nowhere to be seen.

How can I remove Winfax pro when it's not showing up anywhere?

Also, I am puzzled that Norton don't actually mention that you need to download and run a removal tool prior to replcaing Norton Internet 2010 with Norton 360?  Is it necessary at all?

Thanks in advance!  I have wasted HOURS already!!

Check out the following post by Yaso_Kuuhl regarding the removal of Winfax Pro.

Hi Help-needed,

Even if WinFax is not installed you can get this "Remove WinFax" message if Norton Online Family is present.  If this is the case, all you would need to do is to uninstall Norton Online Family via Add/Remove Programs and then run the Norton Removal Tool.

Thanks so much - read the previous thread and deleted via windows registry, not something I'd done before and was a bit scary!  All up and running now, thanks again!  :)

One thing though - Norton really should highlight the need to use the removal tool.  I only knew about it because a previous Norton programme completely crashed my laptop.  I was subsequently told that I should have run the removal tool prior to installation.  There's no mention of this by Norton :/

Although I have installed N360 V5 on top of NIS 2011, allowing the N360 to do the removal, and not had any problems experience with a certain number of people having difficulties -- perhaps also due to exterior situations like your Delrina -- have led to the advice here to use the Norton Removal Tool when moving from one Norton Product to another or from more than one version back in the same product although I suspect the latter may be more important with the major engine etc changes with 2010.

We do have a Norton Ideas Forum here which is specifically intended for people to post suggestions in for changes or improvements in products so why not post your point there and then when others agree and they give kudos it increases in importance for Norton management who do monitor that section.
