Remove and Reinstall Norton Utility didn't restore Norton Toolbar on my browsers

I'm trying to resolve this one myself but so far no luck. With one of the latest updates my toolbar is not available on my browsers. I can't even find it under Manage Addons/Extensions for either IE or Chrome. I found the suggested step to use the Remove and Reinstall Norton, used it but no change.

So now it looks like I have to use the Norton Removal Tool to correct the problem. So before I go to that extreme, has anyone found something that I can do as an alternative to restore the toolbar?

Just checking....

Thanks,

Greg

I'm using Windows 7 Professional, 64bit version.

I removed and reinstalled the browsers but it didn't make any difference. I did a cold start, again no change.

I'm not opposed to removing the software, just looking for a fix that might work as an alternative.

Thanks,

Greg

I used the Norton Removal Tool, downloaded the Norton Installer, and reloaded the software and the toolbar still doesn't show up in the browsers. It doesn't even give me a chance to enable it either.

So I'm stumped, now what?

Greg

Are you using the 32bit version of your browser? The toolbar only works in the 32bit version.

You are correct, am only using 32bit version of the brower. OS is 64 bit, but the toolbar worked previously but hasn't over the past week.

Hi Gzt7d8,

In following scenarios where we  don't see the tool bar,

1.If we  Opens IE  "In Private Browsing"  with  Disable toolbars and extensions when InPrivate browsing starts option is checked inTOOLS>Internet Options>Privacy Tab, tool bar will not be displayed  but we can see the addons which are enabled under Tools->Manage addons->Norton toolbar,Norton Vulnerability Protection,Norton Identity Protection.

2.Norton toolbar is not supported in 64 bit of IE version, Please make whether you are running 32bit version of IE. you can run 32bit IE from here. C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

3.In IE->tools->Internet options->advanced tab-> under browsing section->If check mark is not  present in " Enable third party browser extensions" (even if toolbar enabled in manage addons), Tool bar will not be displayed

4.If you pin to taskbar then none of the ToolBars will be loaded. This is a IE9 design.  When a web page that is pinned from task bar is launched, IE9 opens up in an isolated instance where the browser addons are disabled.

Please check these options and let us know your result.

Could you provide the product version(You can find in NIS  Main UI->support-->About)?

Thanks,

Senthil.

Senthikumar,

Thank you for the response. I'm running version 19.2.0.10 NIS. I have your suggestion and will try it as soon as I can.

I'll post back my results later.

Greg

senthilkumar,

See my results in BOLD added to each of your scenarios below:

In following scenarios where we  don't see the tool bar,

1.If we  Opens IE  "In Private Browsing"  with  Disable toolbars and extensions when InPrivate browsing starts option is checked inTOOLS>Internet Options>Privacy Tab, tool bar will not be displayed  but we can see the addons which are enabled under Tools->Manage addons->Norton toolbar,Norton Vulnerability Protection,Norton Identity Protection. While I was in Private Browsing NONE of the Norton Addons were visable .

2.Norton toolbar is not supported in 64 bit of IE version, Please make whether you are running 32bit version of IE. you can run 32bit IE from here. C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe Yes I understand the toolbar is NOT supported in 64 bit version, all my responses were done with the 32 bit version of IE9.

3.In IE->tools->Internet options->advanced tab-> under browsing section->If check mark is not  present in " Enable third party browser extensions" (even if toolbar enabled in manage addons), Tool bar will not be displayed When I looked at the Advanced Tab, the option (Enable third party browser extensions) IS checked but the toolbar is NOT displayed.

4.If you pin to taskbar then none of the ToolBars will be loaded. This is a IE9 design.  When a web page that is pinned from task bar is launched, IE9 opens up in an isolated instance where the browser addons are disabled. I do NOT use this feature so I feel it does not apply to my situation.
