Remove or delete bootlog.etl

I am having to do some maintenance on my PC.

I had to remove NSW 14 and I want to remove or delete all folders.

I have been successful except for 1.

The NortonUninstaller folder will not delete.

There is a bootlog, etl in it and it says it in use elsewhere.

How do I delete this so I can start my clean up?

Any help will be welcomed.

Hi Jlrca1,

Welcome to the forum. Which OS and SP do you have? So I understand you removed NSW but have some problems deleting the uninstaller directory. Do you have any other Norton/Symantec products on your computer? How did you remove NSW? Was it through the Add/Remove programs in Control Panel? What is the full path to the directory you are not able to delete?

Were you participating in a BETA for Symantec? If so, which one?

Thanks

Allen

Allen,

Thanks for the response.

I had just found a program (unlocker1.8.8.exe) that was able to delete the bootlog and thus I was able to delete the folder.

Sorry I did not mention the O/S. I usually do.

FYI

O/S was Windows XP Pro SP3

No other Norton products.

Removed through Add/Remove

No Beta

Hi Jlrca1,

Thanks for the update. Interesting because I would not expect the bootlog.etl file to be on your system. To my knowledge this file is used strictly by Norton BETA software to log debugging data during BETA test.

Just to make sure everything is cleaned out of your registry I would recommend that you run the Norton Removal Tool to ensure everything is cleaned out properly. You can get the Norton Removal Tool from here. It is normally recommended to run this twice with a reboot in between.

Please mark the relevant post which you believe contained the solution by clicking on the green Solution button that only you can see. This will allow others to know the problem is solved and quickly get to the solution when they search the forums.

Thanks again for the update.

Allen

Had to run it in Safe Mode.

All is clean now.

Thanks for your help.

You are welcome.

Thanks for the update.
