I have a 3-user license for Norton Internet Security (21.1.0.18) and the product is installed on 3 machines. I am retiring an old XP desktop and replacing it with a Windows 8.1 desktop. The new desktop comes pre-loaded with another manufacturer's software which I will be uninstalling.
Can anyone advise me on the correct way to install NIS on the new desktop without exceeding the number of installations the license allows?
I am new to Norton and this will be my first go at this (I'm guessing through Norton Management but thought I'd ask here first other than stumbling along on my own).
Thank you for any assistance.
Hi,
What you can do is to sign in to https://manage.norton.com/ with your Norton Account details and go to the My Account > Product Details. Click on your current subscription. You will see your current installations and by clicking the trash can icon next to the old PC it will disable the protection on that PC and free up an activation to use on the new one.
Customer Support can help if you run in to troubles. They can be contacted at http://www.norton.com/chat. Live Chat is often the quickest.
If the new PC comes pre-installed with a trial security program it will need to be thoroughly removed by using that programs removal tool before you install NIS. Uninstalling from Windows Control Panel isn't always enough. If you can tell us which security program the new PC comes with we can give you a link to the removal tool.
Let us know how you get on.
Thanks,
Dave
Thank you for the good information.
The new machine comes pre-loaded with McAfee. It should arrive late next week so I'll be removing McAfee and installing NIS as a first step.
A link to the removal tool would be helpful
Here you go.

You will have to scroll half way down the page to find the McAfee Consumer Product Removal (MCPR) tool.
