Removing Norton Download Manager

Norton was pre-installed on my laptop. I went into Control Panel and uninstalled it from there before learning about the removal and reinstall tool so I don't know if going through the control panel may have missed certain content. I did use the removal and reinstall tool just in case, but I can't seem to get rid of the Norton Download Manger startup app. I've located the app within the Public Downloads folder, but removing it only removes the icon from the startup app list and the name changes to FSDUI_Custom. Putting the app back restored the name and icon. I've checked two locations on my pc which were both empty:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I also found this folder:

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Temp\{AB49D825-044C-499F-838C-AE2CFD1327A4}

Inside are three apps named FSDUI, FSDUI_Custom, and Upgrade along with a handful of other files. I tried moving the apps to recycle bin, but nothing changed. I tried moving the entire folder into trash, nothing changed.

Does anyone know how to remove this from the start-up apps list?

Using Autoruns worked in removing it from the startup apps listing. It didn't remove the actual "image" or .exe from it's folder, but I was able to do that myself anyway from C:\Users\Public\Public Downloads. I think all I have left to do now is sweep through the Registry Editor.

Maybe, you ran Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool > Remove & Reinstall.
Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool has Advanced Options > Remove Only
Maybe, run Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool > Advanced Options > Remove Only

Remove invalid entries from Task Manager Startup tab

Maybe, check Task Scheduler for Norton remnants and Remediation.

  1. Go into Control Panel, and check the list of installed applications on your computer. If you see anything to do with Norton, uninstall it.
  2. Download and install Autoruns. Open the program and wait for it to generate entries for all startup programs (this is a MUCH more comprehensive list than the one in Task Manager). Scroll through the list and uncheck any Norton entries that you find.

Manually delete all Norton files on your system by searching for "Norton" at the C: level in your file system. Delete any Norton files that show up. Also do the same with Norton registry keys - open regedit.exe and click through all the lists until you find something to do with Norton. If you find anything to do with it, delete.
