Renewal Code

I have automatic renewal and I am getting prompted for a 5 digit renewal code.   Where do I find this renewal code?  It is not in the email I received confirming that my subscription was renewed.

Thanks for any help.

To get you the best advice, would you give us some more information about your system:

What version of Windows are you using including Service Packs and whether 32 bit or 64 bit as well as the Name and Version ID of the Norton product that you are using -- Help or Support / About is where that is, in the format of nn.nn.nn.nnn

Where did you get your Norton product and the renewal from? Did it come pre-installed on a new PC, get it from your Internet Service Provider, from a store (was it Best Buy for example?) ..... I've not heard of a 5 digit renewal code ....

If you have the COMCAST version of Norton 360 / Security Suite and not the normal commercial version please be sure to tell us.

If you get any error messages please give the exact wording of them as well as any other background that could be helpful.

Please also say what internet browser you are using -- name and version number ...

The Norton product was originally installed on my PC when I purchased it.   I've never heard of this code either.  I don't recall ever being asked for this before and I've never had any problems renewing in the past.

I have Windows XP (2002) and Internet Explorer 7.0.  My Norton product is Norton Internet Security 2006, version 9.1.1.7

I've tried calling the customer service number on the confirmation email but noone ever picks up.

I'm not getting any error messages.  I get a pop-up window every time I turn on my computer which asks to connect to the server to verify the renewal.  After connecting, the pop-up window then asks for this mysterious 5 digit renewal code.  The 'help' button in the pop-up window states that this can be found in the confirmation email, but there is no such code in my email from Symantec Renewals.  There is no such code in my account either.

Peaches --

Is there any indication that the message with the number is actually from Norton? There are some scams around that we've had posted here by "users" including bogus offers to remove malware some puporting to come from Norton or from Microsoft.

Could you post the phone number and we can ask Norton to check this out.

Does the message come up regularly so that you could make an image of it and post it here? Do you know how to make an image of something on the screen? If not we can tell you how to and you use the  icon on the editor toolbar to insert an image -- it won't appear for a while after you post the message because they go through moderation for safety.

That is an extremely old version of NIS -- so old that you are not entitled to a free ugrade to the current 2011 version and so old that the technology is almost surely not protecting you against modern malware. I would strongly suggest you shop around the stores with weekend flyers for an offer with rebates.

Have you got XP uptodate with the various Service Packs -- it's up to SP 3 now and unless you are uptodate with Windows Updates your are at additional danger from security holes in the Microsoft elements that make up Windows.

I was finally able to get a customer service rep. on the phone.  They had no explanation for why I wasn't sent an automatic renewal code.  We had to uninstall the old and install the new and they gave me the update to 2011.  I'm back in business but what a frustrating situation!

Thanks for your help, Hugh : )

Great news! I'm so glad that Customer Support came up trumps-- not often we get good feedback on phone since there hve been long delays but perhaps mainly on technical problems rather than customer service. I hope you like the changes in NIS 2011 when you get used to them ...

You know where to come if you have any questions or problems.
