Renewal Cost Issue

Hi,

I have an issue with the cost of renewing my subscription for Norton Internet Security.  The renewal cost for one year on the Symantec website is £44.99, but after a quick look on the internet I discovered I can buy a new and legitimate copy from amazon.co.uk of Norton Internet Security 2009 for just £23.97.  The version on my laptop came preinstalled when I purchased it in June 2008 - I paid the extra to have it installed - so the new copy via Amazon may actually be an upgrade.  Would a brand new copy also contain a one year subscription?  It seems absurd to pay almost twice the price to renew via the Symantec website and I just wondered what everyone else thinks.

Thanks,

RF

Blimey mdturner - that was quick! :smileyvery-happy: I pretty much guessed that I’d be better off buying a new copy but it’s great to have some reassurance.  The only issue really is that my subscription ran out yesterday - is this likely to cause any problems?

Hi

Had a Guy here in find that out, it was cheaper to buy the boxed CD from a store than renew online

Depends what version you are running. If it's 2009 then your product will stop working. If it's 2008or earlier it just stops updating.

Go to Help&Support>About to see build number - if it's 15 that's 2008 if 16 then it's 2009

I would suggest that you buy NIS 2009 as quickly as possible, because your NIS 2008 (I guess that is what you've got installed on your computer) will no longer download the definitions and you will therefore no longer be protected from new threats. So in the meantime, you don't want a threat to catch you with your pants down, so to say ;-)

You've managed to double your kudos by answering a question I've had for some time - where the heck can I find out which version I've actually got!  The build number is 15 (2008) so I'll be purchasing a new copy of 2009 straight away.

Oh, and thanks a lot for your help - it's always a pleasure to see a forum supported by non-employees like this.  Enjoy your weekend! :smileyhappy:

The whole Norton Product will have stopped working, as far as I am aware.

Hi Floating_Red,

It's a three-user licence - the same as the 2009 version I'd purchase from amazon.

Renewal might be "easier" but it's always nice to get a box throught the post!
