Hi OutRaged,
What you could do is the following: sometimes, buying the whole boxed product or the product as a download can be cheaper than buying only the renewal. So maybe you could check, for instance, on amazon if you can purchase a boxed version of your 5-licence Norton version, and simply use the renewal key (on the CD sleeve of the boxed version; in the confirmation e-mail if you buy a Norton product as a download) to renew your Norton product.
For example: if your NIS 2009 is expiring, and you discover a version of NIS 2009 or 2010 going at a lower price than buying a new subscription (make sure that the number of licences corresponds to your current number of licences), then you can purchase that version, ignore the CD and use only the product key to renew your subscription. In order to do this, you have to wait until your Norton product has nearly expired (but don't let it expire altogether!), and then type in your new product key via "Express renewal" or "Subscribe now", depending on which version of Norton you have got (the interface and menu vary between versions/builds). The reason why you would have to wait until your old subscription has expired is that if you renew your product with a new product key, then the days from your old subscription will not be added to your new subscription.
Hi Outraged:
Have you actually looked in the Symantec store website for renewals for 5-user packages. This is on the US. site, but they have obviously kept the renewal cost as low as possible.
Hi Outraged:
Your points are quite valid!
That's why I went out a month ago and picked up 2 boxes of NIS 2009 @ $9.99 each (US) - too bad that they didn't have more!
It is hard to put a price on great network security, though. If I had to pay more, I would... but just for Norton.
Nothing like peace of mind!
Hi OutRaged,
Your points are less valid, if you look at the posts above.
You just added 5 single user subscriptions together and ended up with $ 250,-.
If you look around a bit, you will discover, that you can buy a 3 user, 5 user or 10 user pack. User = PC. So your five PC’s can be very well protected with Norton for less than $ 100,- ($ 3 a day=1 beer).
Worth every penny, even if you do not own a business. Even by simply restoring doing a factory restore, you then have to adjust and install everything afterwards. For me that is loosing quality-time hours, which are worth at least $ 40 an hour for me !
And don’t forget that Norton is not a static program, like f.i. Office. Each day there are a lot of people working at Symantec, to supply you with the latest protection updates for security threats.
In the past Brits looked to the States for cheaper product. NIS 2010 is being sold by majors such as Amazon.co.uk over here at £23 for 1yr 3 PC licence. Maybe its time to buy from the UK.
Thanks for all the feedback. I have not found the page for a 5 user pack, it must be well hidden. I do see that the Internet security has a 3 PC licence.
Ok, I found where you need to select Multi-User Packs instead of the actual product of intrest.
OutRaged,
You can find the page here:
Thanks…
You’re welcome
Hi all:
hvgsel has a point about the single user licenses costing $250.
My post above represents 3 user licenses - you just have to shop around and know that you can use the 2009 product key to upgrade for free. Problem is that 2009 is hard to find. Most retailers pull them after the new release is launched. I was just lucky!
Hi
There are still plenty around most likely on the web which are cheaper also.

With the exchange rate at $1.6+ / £1 ..... and NIS 2010 3 PC Bundled With Norton Utilities at $29.99 .... ?
Hi huwyngr:
Actually, I had just seen the NIS 2010, 3 PC with NU for $24.99 US - at Costco - not bad at all.
Like floplot said, if you buy from the web there is a larger chance of netting NIS 2009 really cheap, but forget about the physical store purchase. Those boxes usually go back to the vendor for credit towards the next release being stocked on the shelves.

I can go one better. From amazon.cn NIS 2010 3 PC for 2 years at 124rmb thats £12.13 or at $1.6=£1, $19.41 or $9.70 each year.
And believe me there are websites in China where the product is sold at 2rmb!
There are other places you can buy this week at that sort of price but Norton prefer us gurus not to name names in order, I imagine, to avoid complaints from other authorized suppliers.
Buying on the internet is fine if you know the reliability of the source.
My basic point was that it does not matter what year KEY you might have, provided it is later than 2006?) since it will activate the latest download.
I have the opposite problem - I only have one PC and paying $50 to renew seemed a bit high. I found 2010 Internet Security for 1 PC at Staples for $49.99 with a $30 rebate, (so my actual cost will be $19.99) , added a $1.00 box of pens to make it over $50 and got free shipping. The rebate offer goes until Jan. 9, by the way.

In what State did you see this price for $24.99. I was just at Costco yesterday and NIS 2010,3 PC with NU sold for $54.99 same price as buying online at Costco. (Norfolk, Virginia)
Good find – check if it has a user’s rebate form inside the box as well and then you’ll be 1¢ in pocket if it’s the usual $20 ! Very often you don’t even have to have a Norton product to upgrade from but any competing product.
I find it very interesting that the renewal price for 360 is 89.99 but the software is being sold on this website for 49.99! Shouldn't a renewal price reflect the best possible price for loyal customers and not try to take advantage of us? This is insane!
