Why does Symantec offer NIS at two different prices?
My renewal price is £44.99, and yet I can download a new product from Symantec for £24.99. What price loyalty for a user who has 6PCs covered and who has used NIS since the 90s.
I had almost decided to renew despite the fiasco with Identity Safe, (I don't want off-line storage of passwords) - but this crazy pricing may be the last straw....

What is a subscription renewal purchase?
If you already have a Norton product installed, you can continue your protection with this product by renewing your subscription. This extends the subscription expiration date of your currently installed product by adding the purchased subscription to your existing subscription time. When you renew from within your product, subscription renewal is usually presented as the least expensive option. If you are happy with the protection features of your current product, purchasing the subscription renewal is probably your best choice.

Hi, Marketing is where the rubber meets the sky. I'm sure they can explain why it is the way it is but I'm not sure I could understand the explanation.
Many users find that they can buy a new box from a local store or a reliable online vendor for less than the renewal cost. In those cases they wait until just before the subscription expires and install the new key and get another year of protection.
Do I understand that at some point I will get the option to enter the key from the new retail NIS I bought (which cost 1/3 the price of the renewal Norton offers) ? Or am I going to have to uninstall the current version and then install the new product with the key that came with it ? thanks ... do n

When you run into a price situation like that make a note of the page URLs and print them out too and then contact Norton OnLine Support via the CHAT route as below. Ask them to honor the lower price for your renewal or to send you the key as if you were purchasing it from them .....
I've heard of this working. If you can buy it cheaper from a reputable source then do so as suggested and use the key.
To contact customer support Click on this link https://www.norton.com/chat and work on from there. It should link you to the correct regional support for the UK.
Moral of the story is, don't use automatic renewal - disable it !!!!
Most would agree!
Although users should be aware that when they renew their subscriptions, they are Automatically Enrolled in Nortons Automatic Renewal Service. If after renewing their subscriptions, they don't go into their Norton Account and disable the feature, they may end up with a charge a year later they didn't expect.
Although, you do get an email prior to actually being charged.
