Repeated Norton Antivirus Alert on my iMac

I keep getting a Norton Antivirus alert pop-ip on my desktop "the scan engine could not be loaded. Please reinstall Norton Antivirus".

 

I dont want Norton on my computer, can anyone please tell me how to STOP these annoying popups? Thanks.

Thanks for posting.  My imac is brand new. We transfered everything from my old imac onto it, and from day one, I get these errors.  Way back in 2003 when we first got our old imac, we did buy Norton, but then stopped using it, and (as far as I knew) deleted all the software. we do not have norton installed, as indicated by a search of my harddriveusing "norton" as a key word.

 

 Now, when I restart and also just randomly, we get these pop ups:

 

" Norton Antivirus error:  Nortom antivirus autoprotect could not continue. Please reinstall and restart"

 

any ideas to get rid of this would be gratefully received!!!!
