Restart after update - Norton 360

Hi, it looks like my question has been answered in other posts e.g..

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Live-update-asks-me-to-restart-the-PC-after-every-update-Is-that/m-p/18703#M3516

 - sorry to be repetitive but guess I really want someone to tell me if it is OK to run Live Update several times (each one requiring a restart) but only perform the update after update is no longer downloading.

We have HSI from Comcast & Norton 360 is provided for free.  Have been telling family members it is OK to continue downloads, I think 4 times, each one requiring a restart but instead of restarting the PC 4 times just do it once @ the end.  Am I correct in assuming this?

thanks in advance

Hi,

If "Restart Required" is told by the product its always recommended to restart the machine before running the LU again.

The restarts are required for Engine updates and the product updates. Unless you restart the machine, the product won't be updated and you would get the new updates for the recently updated engine.

Hope this is clear.

Regards,

Prasanna.

No, you are not correct.  When a REBOOT is required, that is exactly what it means - reboot.  Any shortcuts may cause you more problems than you desire to handle.

On the Comcast Forums from this FAQ link:  http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/Norton-Security-Suite-FAQ-s/m-p/870723/message-uid/870723#U870723 the first three FAQ's concern the installation of  Norton Security Suite (N360 as you refer to it as) under different conditions and each of them clearly state:

"Once installation is complete, open NSS and manually Run LiveUpdate (located on drop-down under PC Security on left side of main page of NSS) as many times as necessary for it to respond "no more updates available". If a reboot is requested, reboot and then continue to Run LiveUpdate until it responds "no more updates available" and then reboot one last time.  Your installation should now be up to date definition wise and ready for use."
