Restoring a Backup of Computer A to a different computer

I recently experienced a crash of the OS on an IBM running Windows XP Pro.  I have a backup of critical files on an external HD.  Until I find a fix for the crash, I would like to restore the backup to another computer (CPQ running Windows XP Home) so I can have access to these files.

When I look at my external HD through my CPQ machine, I do not "see" the backup from the IBM.

I feel like there's a very simple solution for this problem, but it had thus far eluded me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Frank

Hello Frank1Bonnie,

Welcome to Norton Community Forums!

Sorry for the delay in response. Did you backup the crictical files with Norton 360 program? If so, can you check if you have N360_BACKUP folder in your external drive? The backedup files will be in encrypted format, and it is not possible to copy-paste the encrypted files from the backup folder. If you have that N360_BACKUP folder, then you have to install Norton 360 on your CPQ computer with Windows XP Home in order to restore the files. You can refer to the steps mentioned here:
