Restoring files from Norton 360 Back-up

I am attempting to restore my files.  The problem is that when I press to start the process, it is showing some 38,000 files.

It is asking me over-write each one!   How do I get it to just re-instate my back-up without the over- write request on each file?

In addition, at this stage the program will not allow me to close it down, the only way I can shut the process off is to use Ctrl, Alt, delete.

A further problem has now emerged, an error message,8504,104.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to re-install the files from an external drive.

For the error problem I will try the solution you gave. I did try and make sure that everything was up-to-date with live update.

These problems have started because I have had a new hard drive installed. I am using XP.

After the reinstall copy the ARestore.exe and the ARestore.loc file from the c:\program files\norton 360\engine\5.1.0.29\ folder to the root folder of the HDD where your backups are stored, and double click on it. It should detect all the previous backup sets you made.

Let us know the results.

Hello Papau2

Thanks for your interest in my problem, however I am not very technically minded so please keep it as basic as possible.

You mention 'After the reinstall'  Please see attached files showing what is appearing when I try thr reinstall.

None of the files selected have been restored.

The list of backups are are shown and I have tried various ones and even tried just selecting individual files, but the same error keeps appearing.

Hello Papau2

Thank you, after reading your post slowly and following it to the letter your advice was a complete success!!!

What did throw me initially, after the restore, was that the restored files were contained in a file 'Restored Files'  Is there a way that these files can be returned to their original place?

For example, I use ACDSee Photo Manager, all the folders have reappeared within that programme, complete with the names but the folders are empty.  Can I just move all the pictures back into those folders?
