I’ve been upgraded to the new experience. I immediately received the following message:
“We’re restricting some apps due to increased security. You appear to be on a Public network, so we increased your security and restricted access for risker apps.”
I would like to see what apps have been restricted, but the only place I can find settings for apps is in the Smart Firewall section, and there are no restrictions in the Program Control section.
Is there any way to find out what apps are restricted?
Are you strictly using WiFi when this happens? Public network setting suggests WiFi and/or VPN is being used.
There is a standard boilerplate for each new thread that is posted where the forums asks for certain information. Most posters just remove it and post. That information assists us in assisting you since we cannot see what you are experiencing. Please tell us the following:
What is your OS, its version and build -
What is the version of your Norton product -
Are you using the Norton or other VPN -
Norton info:
Program version: 24.10.9535 (build 24.10.9535.880)
Windows info:
Edition: Windows 10 Home
Version: 22H2
OS build: 19045.5011
Not using a VPN, but am using Wi-Fi. Deliberately set to network to Public, but previous version of Norton never mentioned anything about restricting apps when network was set to this.
I understand that if I’m at home and using my own network, but Norton is informing me that it is restricting certain apps when the network is set to Public. When out and about, I will be setting my network profile to Public.
I need certain apps to be fully functioning for what I do, and not being able to check what apps Norton is restricting is not exactly reassauring.
This is actually the only place I can find in this new version where any “reports” are being stored by Norton. Open this directory and see if you have a report that lists what you are looking for. I would specifically look at the web shield report.
Smart Firewall filters applications based on the applications’ reputation data collected from Norton’s user base. If an application’s reputation data is unknown, the application is considered a Low Risk Application.
