Retreiving Backed Up Files and folder Ghost 15

Hi,

I recently had a problem with my hard drive and had to run Norton Ghost to restore the drive, this all went surprisingly easily. The problem was that my backup was an image of my drive as it was on 1st April 2012.

I did not think that this would be a problem as as weekly I backup "C:\Users\Steve\Documents" I have 427 folders named similar to fbfFiles_27e, these folder contain *.fbf files (eg 1cd0dcd6e327e1b.fbf) totalling 741GB. I assumed that I would easily be able to use Norton Ghost to simply restore "C:\Users\Steve\Documents" to how they were on 18th October 2012. But I cannot seem to work out how to do this, hopefully simple task.

I am not concerned for any program files that I have installed I can easily enough reinstall them from the original media, what I want to recover are images, documents, music files etc that have been added to my documents between 1st April and 18th October 2012.

My hardware is a Win7 Pro PC, the backup location is a Synology DS411J NAS.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Regards

Steve

I wouldn't waste my time with File and Folder Backup. You can read THIS POST by Allen M and decide for yourself.

You can import F & F Backup by opening the Ghost GUI  > Tasks > Recover My Files > under Search In, click 'File and Folder' > File > Import backup destination. Then browse to the folder the F & F Backups are in.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, wish I had read the contents of the post you pointed me to before, doh!

I had tried what you suggested but after 6 hrs and about 10% progress got bored and cancelled. I thought I would try it with the backup F&F folders from a specific date, seemed okay imported it told me "Succesfully imported backup destination" where it has imported it to is a total mystery, certainly nowhere that I can readily find on either my NAS or system drive. Do you know where it imports files to? All of a bit of a mystery really, I don't think I'll be using backup files and folder again.

They say you have either lost data or will lose data, I thought my NAS and Ghost would prevent that, I reckon I have the data but no idea how to acces it, does that count as lost data!
