Norton identifies two versions of my home network name and appends it with a decimal point and an additional digit, so it identifies a NAME.3 and a NAME.4.
I got a Norton pop up saying “Network profile changed to PRIVATE”, even though I hadn’t changed anything. I opened the Norton app and it says my network setting is PUBLIC. I tried to take a screen shot of the pop up and it disappeared. I opened my Windows WiFi Setting, Network Properties, and my Network Profile was set to Private even though I had set it to Public recently.
My Security History shows near constant connections to my router, a long list identified as “A moment ago” alternating between the 0.3 and 0.4 names mentioned above.
This along with a recent involuntary redirect to a suspicious site a couple weeks ago had me thinking my computer had been compromised. Multiple scans with my Norton subscription, plus a round of troubleshooting with a rep at Malwarebytes show no problem with my computer.
I’m considering buying a new router in case it has been compromised. But if this all sounds normal, I’ll hold off.

@HawaiiUser Hello. This sounds like the UPD17 constant notifications everyone were getting. This may help. Disable NETBIOS on your Wifi and ethernet adapters then reboot the machine.

I think I completed the steps. Smart Firewall Activities show “Rules Networking in Public Blocked (UDP/17) Traffic with…”
But the constant connections to my router continue.
Thanks.
Thanks for the post back. I would factory reset your router, change your factory admin login to the router as well as the SSID’s and passwords for your Wifi network as well. Reboot the router and recheck.

I reset router to factory and changed name and passwords, rebooted. Still two network names, the 0.4 and Unidentified. But I’m getting the feeling the two network issue is a Windows issue, because that’s how the networks are identified in the Control Panel…Network and Sharing…Active Networks. So I tried to chat with Microsoft/Windows and they wouldn’t help me unless I gave control which I didn’t want to do. So, back at square one, still functional but uncertain as to whether this is an intrusion issue. Anyway thanks. I’ll assume this is not a Norton issue at this point.
Please post a screenshot of what you are seeing regarding the network naming. Make sure no personal information is visible please. We’d like to see what is actually being presented to you for review. Thanks.
