RPC Server error

When i try to send the norton ghost agent to another computer from my file server i get this error code and text:

-Error E0D3EBC0: Cannot deploy the Agent to (computername).

--The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

Is there a simple fix for this? If so please tell me. I'm trying to get my file server to control the local and workstation backups.

Hi Tylor,

If the computer to which you are deploying the agent has Windows Vista or Windows 7 installed on it, I would recommend you to manually install Norton Ghost on that system instead of deploying. Later you can add that computer to computer list in Norton Ghoston your file server. Due to advanced security features of Windows Vista and Windows 7, there are few issues reported while deploying the agent.

After installing Norton Ghost on the remote computer, open TCP port 135 on both the computers. This port is used for Remote Management in Norton Ghost.

Hi Pore_vinod,

Installing the Ghost client on the target computer was to be one of the suggestions but first I wanted to find out what OS we are talking about. :smileyhappy: When I originally set this up on Windows Vista it also required setting port 135 for both TCP and UDP. When I set it for the recommended TCP only, it did not work. There was also a registry change I had to make in order to get this to work as well with Vista and it had to do with whether Vista on the target computer would allow the incoming session to be elevated to Administrator level or not.

I did not want to get into these more complicated pieces until it was necessary as this registry setting might already be in place on Tylors system or it may have changed with the SP update since I last set mine up and may no longer be necessary.

I would suggest program control through the firewall first and if that does not work we will set it up for port 135.

Thanks

Allen

Hi Allen,

I got your point and agree with that. My objective was to make it as easy as possible for a normal user so that he doesn't have to make complicated changes for deployment of Norton Ghost agent. Even the Norton Ghost 15.0 user guide recommends to manually install Norton Ghost on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 rather than deploying the agent. Your approach is absolutely right only difference being that I was looking for a short and hastle-free method :smileyvery-happy:
