Running a scan at the command prompt

There is a command line option for navw32.exe  to scan a folder or any amount of files with usual antivirus scanner. But what is command line (or any other way) to scan executable file with File Insight? Since there is a way to perfom usual signature scan with navw32.exe just by adding path to file, there must be same way for Insight scans.

I am asking about this because NIS does not add itself into context menu of Total Commander file manager (and will not add in future as I understood from reading old threads here in forums).

This arcticle says nothing about Insight scan https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/norton-internet-security/21.2.0.38/solutions/v8278351_NIS_Retail_2014_en_us

Thanks

I will explain in details then.

There is an ability to scan files using signatures and cloud (File Insight).

Here they are - using right click menu in windows explorer (Scan now = signatures, File Insight checks cloud reputation)

But file managers like Total Commander are not supported by Norton, so they does not have these links in right click menu

2

But we can do the following, add one line like this to "Send" menu

3

That line is in fact just path to the navw32.exe which means we scan certain files with command line

Like

c:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine\21.2.0.38\navw32.exe c:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.dll

So, simply adding path to scanner command line will scan it for virus signatures. And, as we can see in the 1st picture, there is another option in windows explorer right click menu, to scan file in cloud, with File Insight.

My question is what is command line for navw32.exe (or may be other?) to creat such line like I have shown in the 3rd picture.

PS

for better illustration

Scan with signatures gives this result

And by cloud I mean this

Support staff just told me that there is no such command line for File Insight scan... Well, that is rather weird, I wonder what command launches this scan then when you click item in windows explorer menu?

Anyway, it is not that this issue bothers me alot, or I check files like this every day, was just curious. All other NIS components work fine for me, at least now.

Hi, Ameli. I get what you're saying. Some functions were removed in later editions of NAV and NIS.

As I said, you still have the facility to individually scan a file.

Also, as you're no doubt aware Norton will always flag a suspect file or download, anyway.
