Running Norton in Safe Mode?

I am trying to trouble shoot my computer.  The current problem is that while on the internet an additional web browser will open with a Google Oops! page that has a web browser location of  http//  samesh##asiteverwas.com   an the ## is filled in w/ letters.   I feel this information should point to the particular virus.

I have run a virus scan and windows malicious software removal in normal mode and nothing was found.

I tried to run Norton 360 in safe mode and it told me to  download  nns1 .  I tried this and it wouldn't run in safe mode either.

I ran the Windows Malware in safe mode and it found nothing.

Has anyone had this same problem?   Please help.

Cathy

Norton 360, as far as I am aware, does not Run in Safe Mode at all, and that includes Manual Scans.

You sould only Run Norton as your Real-Time Protection.  You can Download free Products, such as Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Update, and re-start in to Safe Mode, do a Full Scan of all Drivers, making sure you are Dis-Connected from the Internet.  This should be followed up by a Full Scan in Normal Mode and you should not Connect to the Internet un-til the Second Full Scan has been Completed.  Let us know the Results.

kc1,

you will not be able to open the Norton program in safe mode and you can run a full system scan is safemode using the run line command navw32 /l.

Thanks!  Malwarebytes worked great and found the viruses that even the computer guy I took it to a week ago coundn't find and told me the computer didn't have any viruses.

After running Malwarebytes in safemode, I tried to run Norton as listed in the other post....unfortunately, every time I tried to run it, it kicked me out and said that there was an error and it had to shut down.

So I ran Norton 360 in Normal Mode....and after doing so, I tried to go online...... and at that point numberous viruses attacked my computer.  I tried to access this site to get more help but just when I would get to my post......I was kicked off the site.   Without having another computer to access the internet, I gave up and found a new computer guy in town who knew about getting rid of viruses and he finished fixing it for me.

Thanks for the help!   I've become a little more aware of how to find and fix these things!     Cathy
