.... I have followed the instructions of "Nuke Chrome" and it seems to have solved my problem!

Hi AnsonWoo23:

Glad to hear that solved your problem.  All credit goes to treed for pinning his malware removal guide How to Remove WeKnow Malware (and others) at the top of the Mac Malware Removal Help & Support board.  Be sure to post in that board if you have any concerns that remnants of the Safe Finder browser hijacker are still on your system and treed or one of the other Malwarebytes staff should be able to assist you.

There is a Norton for Mac board in this forum if you have any questions about using your new Norton Security product on your Mac computer.

If you're not happy with your Norton purchase please note that they have a 60 day money-back guarantee for most products - see the support article Norton Return and Cancellation Policies.  If you used a credit card to purchase Norton from their online store there are also instructions in that support article on how to turn off automatic renewals in your Norton account if you don't want your annual subscription automatically renewed next year.

Thank you so much for your in depth explanation Imacri. I have followed the instructions of "Nuke Chrome" and it seems to have solved my problem!

Cheers,

Hi AnsonWoo23:

Norton is an antivirus so its main focus is protecting your operating system from higher-risk malware like viruses, trojans, worms, etc. Anti-malware scanners like Malwarebytes Free have historically done a better job detecting lower-risk PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) like unwanted browser hijackers, toolbars and adware.

I don't own a Mac but did some searching in Malwarebytes' Mac Malware Removal Help & Support board. From what I understand, the free Malwarebytes for Mac software should remove the Safe Finder browser hijacker but at a minimum you will have to go into your Chrome settings afterwards and manually reset your homepage setting in Chrome to prevent your browser from being re-directed to Yahoo's Safe Finder webpage.  From treed's malware removal guide How to Remove WeKnow Malware (and others) that is pinned at the top of that Malwarebytes for Mac board:

In Chrome:

  1. Choose Preferences from the Chrome menu
  2. Change the settings under On startup

If that doesn't solve your problem, please note that the second "nuke Chrome" option in treed's malware removal guide will completely wipe Chrome off your system (including bookmarks, Google apps, etc.) so if you go this route be sure to export any important Chrome data that you want to restore after Chrome is reinstalled.  Before you resort to this second "nuke Chrome" option I'd suggest you post your question in the Mac Malware Removal Help & Support board to see if treed or one of the other Malwarebytes staff knows a less drastic solution since many users in that Mac board have requested assistance for removing the last remnants of Safe Finder from their Chrome browser.
