I would guess that this issue is very easy to reproduce. I have a WinXP SP3 machine with 3 user accounts. Only 1 is monitored (my daughters). This is a restricted account not an administrator account. There is no password configured on the account. Fast user switching is enabled. If you log into the monitored account past the configured curfew time, then you will notice that you are not logged out, but “user switched” back to the user selection screen after a few minutes. You can then simply switch back in to that user account, and you will be switched out again after another minute or so. You can continue this process as many times as you like.
AndrwSmart,
Thanks for the information. I would be glad to setup a remote access session with you to get some logs that could help our development and QA team to investigate the issue. Please send me a private message and let me know when would be a good time for you. I'm in Los Angeles with Pacific time.

What would be much quicker and simpler in my view is that you ask your QA team to make a short test on a WinXP SP3 machine with fast user switching enabled and check what happens when you try to repeatedly log in after the curfew time. Several people on this forum have reported the same type of behaviour relating to this, so I can’t believe that you cannot easily reproduce the issue without going through many unnecessary rounds of questions back and forth. Regards, Andrew
Hi AndrewSmart,
Thanks for sharing your point of view with us. Our QA team has been trying to reproduce the issue, including the steps you mentioned here since the first time the issue was brought up. We have also worked with users via remote sessions. Unfortunately, none of them were able to reproduce it when we were on remote sessions.
If you are interested in showing the issue to us via remote session, We'll be gald to set it up and check into it.
Thanks,
Katie
I am having the same issues. I have attached a list past hours log ins. My son says all he has to do is just keep logging in. He does not have admin privileges. We were using Vista and just switched to Windows 7 had the same issues on both operating systems. There seems to be a lot of us stating this problem for you not to be able to recreate it. I am very seriously considering using another program if it doesn't get fixed soon.
Hi Sue_R,
Thanks for sending the attachment to us. We have worked with users who reported the issue, but unfortunately no one has been able to reproduce the issue on remote sessions. If you are interested in showing it to us, I would be glad to setup a remote access session with you to get some logs that could help our development and QA team to investigate the issue. Please send me a private message and let me know when would be a good time for you. I'm in Los Angeles with Pacific time.

I am new to Norton and I like it very much except the safety minder is constantly being disabled. I will stop using this parental control with this ongoing issue. Have you researched other parental control softwares?
gcapps,
Please check out the thread at http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Online-Family/Please-Respond/m-p/446094/highlight/false for the same question you posted there.
Thanks,
Katie
I thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth here for the first time. I have this product installed on my 3 kids pc's and get the usual irritating daily emails stating Family safety has been disabled and now just ignore it. Also I have the same issue of my son being able to keep using his computer after his curfew except he claims he can get about an extra 10 minutes by selecting switch user when the 60 second warning appears and going back to his login.
It makes no difference if I set his account to restricted user or having Admin rights. He is a typical rebelious teenager who takes exception to me restricting his hours and it frustrates the hell out of me that he can keep doing this.
As far as I am concerned the user should get a couple of minutes warning to save their work and then get totally locked out. How hard can it be?
If this issue is not resolved in the next update I will be seriously looking at using another product.
If possible I will try and do a short video capture of this happening to send to you once I figure out how to do it.
I am tired of the alerts and have switched to a different parental control. I am using puresight free 30 day trial and there is one more I may try. I simply do not have the time to try to figure out the "false" alerts. Norton is claiming my sons know the password and are disabling it themselves. I know this is not true. They need to resolve the issue.
Hi ARTKIWI,
We are very interested in knowing the steps that a child takes to be able to stay online after curfew time. I will be more than happy to setup a remote session with you if you're able to reproduce the issue.
If you prefer to send us a video instead of a remote session, that's fine with me.
Thanks,
Katie
I have managed to use Windows 7's built in Problem Steps recorder to screen shot the process which is attached as a zipped mht file which opens in Internet Explorer. I only managed to extend it by 1 minute at a time but a while back he was bragging he could do it for longer but of course he won't tell me how.
When the countdown window appeared I simply went Start/Switch user and then went straight back in as him which I guess is the same as logging off and back on as others have mentioned so nothing new there..
Hope the screen shots are of some help.
I still believe the software should automatically log out after the countdown finishes and not let them log on again.
By the way he does have admin rights at the moment but when he didn't it did the same thing.
I have tried attaching the zip file but it will not allow that file type nor mht. How do I sent it to you?
Hi ARTKIWI,
We appreciate your working with us on the issue.
When the time is up, the child would receive a message saying there are 60 seconds left. After 60 seconds, the child is allowed to log back to the PC for another 60 seconds to finish whatever he/she was doing. These behaviors can be repeated for three times, so the child gets about extra 6 minutes, then he/she wouldn't be able to log back to the PC without the email address and password for the Norton Online Family account.
The grace period works (like you are able to get extra 1 minute) as designed. It gives a child some time to save the work the child has been doing before the time is expired. e.g school works.
Also, please give non-administrative rights (limited or restricted) to your child’s user account and keep the password for your Norton Online Family account away from the child. Otherwise, the child would have the ability to tamper the program.
If you have any questions or send any further videos to me in the future, you can find my email address at http://community.norton.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/15038
Thanks,
Katie
Having same problem here
keep log off and login.
sure making fun of the norton time control
can be repeated 3 times?????? hahahahahaha ..just as much times as you like.
child account is limited
time supervisor is on
time blocking enabled
time set to 0 hours
lock computer when reach
windows xp
I believe we may have isolated the problem. Can you confirm if your child's account has a password? If the account does not have a password, this might be the same issue. if the account already has a password, we may need to look closer at this issue.
This is ridiculous. I think your techs need to work on resolving this problem instead of asking so many questions. I felt too fustrated and do not have time to answer your questions while all along the safety minder on my boys' computers were constantly being disabled and the time curfews not working. My boys do not have my password contrary to your belief. I have since switched to another parental control in which I do not have to worry. I am surprised more parents don't do the same.
Thanks for replying.
No my son does not have a password on his windows account so I will set one and see if that makes any difference. I tried attaching a screen shot showing my son logging on for about 1 hour 10 minutes paste his curfew but you do not allow jpg attachments which is crazy. Will try and email it to the address you gave me.
ARTKIWI,
I've received the file you sent me by email. Thanks for sending it to me.
For now, please do two things to see if you are still experiencing the issue.
1) Create a password for his Windows account.
2) Do NOT give administrative rights to his Windows account.
Please let us know if they help.
Thanks,
Katie
