Safety Minder requirement

I have NIS 2010, with Online Family as Parental Controls.  I have Safety Minder installed on my son's PC, with time limitations and certain sites blocked.  My son's Vista Logon does not have administrator rights, just standard user.

My son will logon in the afternoon and use his PC for Facebook, etc.  I have watched his screen for the past 3-4 days.  The Safety Minder "paw" in the system tray has a red "X" in it.  I click on the paw, and I receive the message, "Parental action is required".  I then logon to Online Family, and it comes up with the screen showing the valid user IDs on the PC.  I click "OK".  It tells me that House Rules are being downloaded.  The paw then has a green check mark in it, and it tells me that Safety Minder is now monitoring this PC.

What is causing the red "X" every day?  Should Safety Minder not come up active at every boot-up without having to have parental logon download the House Rules?  What have I done wrong in the setup?

I go to Settings > Profile and it states that one PC has my son as being monitored, and he is protected.  But he will Logon later today, and I will check his PC, and the red X will be in the Paw.  It will require me to Logon to Online Family, and download the House Rules before it will again state that he is protected.

What is triggering the "Parental intervention is required"?

ltrogdon,

Please click the Norton Safety Minder icon, paw, and select Edit Accounts, then enter the Parental Email and Password.  Is your son's Windows user account connected to his profile on the OnlineFamily.Norton website?

Thanks,

Yes it is.  It also states that my Logon is not being monitored from his PC.

I then click "OK", it states that my settings have been updated, although I made no changes.  It then says that House Rules are being downloaded.  The red "X" is removed from the Paw in the tray.  Then I receive a box message that Safety Minder is now monitoring this Logon on this PC, then another box message that Safety Minder is active (or something like that).

When I right-click on the Paw when it has the red "X", the only available options are Edit Accounts and Update House Rules.  After completing the above tasks, then all options are available.  It remains that way until the PC is shut down and rebooted.  Then the same scenario begins again.

ltrogdon,

The current  Norton Safety Minder version is 1.1.0.22.  If you are using this version, can you please uninstall and reinstall Norton Safety Minder to see if it helps (All the profiles and settings on the website have been saved on the servers, so you don't need to reset them after you reinstall the program)?

Thanks,

Katie

That is the version that I had installed.  I re-installed it and I'll watch to see if that helped when he logs on again.

Thanks for your time in resolving this issue.

My son booted his PC and Logged on about a half hour ago.  I checked, and the red "X" is on the Paw.  I right-clicked the Paw, connected to the Online Family web site, it loaded our house rules and the red "X" went away.

At boot-up time, Safety Minder is just not initializing properly.

ltrogdon,
