We see so many people in the Forum complaining about having to reinstall and then losing their settings. Some people are even hesitant about upgrading to the new version because they don't want to lose their settings.
So, once again, another upgrade looms, and I am facing the prospect of manually typing out 40+ exclusions into a text file, and then copying them back into NIS. I spoke with a representitive over chat and they let me know that NIS still does not preserve exclusion lists across the upgrade. From this thread, I can infer that this feature was added to the product in some respect, but the rep I spoke to was completely useless to help me find it.
Has this been added to NIS, and if so, how do I access it? If not, please get on it! There is no reason that NIS should not preserve settings across an upgrade, and lacking that, not have any facility to export them.
So, I bit the bullet and upgraded, and it turns out the rep I talked to had no idea what they were on about, as all of my exclusion lists were preserved when upgrading to NIS 2012 (still had to re-create my custom firewall rules, however).
Even so, save/export settings should still be added to NIS, as this will greatly ease the pain of the (all-to-common) troubleshooting solution of wiping and re-installing NIS.
I just installed NORTON NIS 2013 only to find that all of my username and passwords have been wiped out as well as my settings. This was not necessary, the files could have been backed up and instructions given for re-installation of them. In fact I am not sure that I have found a way to reinstall and reuse them, without going to each site and typing in each username/password. If so, Norton has not made me very happy. As far as I can see this version is presenting a difficult learning process.
