Scam during dowload of Norton 360 Deluxe

Hi everyone - I just wondered if anybody has experienced a modest scam during the download process for Norton 360.

I eventually resolved this issue and the scam was modest from a financial perspective.

The scam seemed to unfold as:-

1. "Fatal Error" sign and warning during download process.

2. Download aborted and I was directed to a Chat Box (but not Norton's).

3. Mobile No. given (by myself) and a "technician" rang me back purporting to help (which in fairness he did) but he was not from Norton and I think the object was to install rogue spyware on my laptop.

In the event, no serioius harm was done and my laptop is now fully secure (via Norton) but  thought I might share this with the Community.

Many thanks - Kevin Dobson

There are many of these technical scams out there and good for you that you caught it and knew something was amiss.

How to recognize and avoid tech support scams | Norton

Many thanks - originally I was downloading from the Norton Site proper but I then seemed to be misdirected by messages and prompts which were not from an authentic Norton source.

I should have shut down and simply started again but in the event no real harm was done. I just wondered aboutl anybody else's similar experience in this area.

What site were you downloading from?

It seems you had a non Norton download site and the scam came from there.
