Scammed by tech support

A couple of days ago my husband received a text message from "Norton" saying that his script had been renewed and if he wanted to cancel call a # . My husband called the #. They proceeded to almost swindle $39,995 from my husband's account. I feel I am savvy and questioned what was going on the whole 45 minutes we were on the call. It was my husband who realized there was too much access too late. While on the phone with a thief with an accent, he headed to the bank only a few minutes away. He was able to bring the bank manager on the phone with the thief just after locking his bank down in the nick of time. PLEASE BE AWARE OF SCAMS. I also wanted to report to Norton that crimes are at least being attempted in the company name.

Norton is well aware of these scams. These support scams are not just in Norton's name. Scammers target company names they know have large customer bases, like Norton, McAfee, Microsoft.  You will find many, many reports here of users receiving emails supposedly from Norton that want the user to call a number to have a very large charge refunded. Of course the charge was never made, but if you call the number they ask for banking information so they can withdraw, nor refund anything.

You don't even have to use that product to get these scam emails. I received a number supposedly from McAfee, and I have never had a McAfee product on my systems.

Fraudulent companies carry out technical support scams by posing as software support providers and claim to offer support on behalf of major technology companies. They set up fake websites, send scam emails, offer free security scans, or send alarming messages to convince you that your computer is infected or needs to be fixed.
