Scan Frequency

I'm sure this has been asked many times over the years, but an update would be helpful.  Given the real-time protection in NIS 2012, is there any reason to run frequent scans?  I currently have a quick scan running daily and a full scan running weekly.  Would it make sense to still run the daily quick, but run the full scan less often, such as monthly and perhaps after installing new programs or version updates.  I've read that there is a school of thought that, given the effectiveness of real-time scanning, other scanning is no longer necessary  I'm not sure I'd be comfortable, at least for now, not doing a few scan periodically.

Your comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi BC,

Your current scan schedules are probably more than enough.  Each time a new set of Virus Definitions are downloaded NIS will automatically run a quick scan when your system becomes idol.  This will pick up any currently running malware.

As the quick scans in NIS12 scan deeper than previous versions,  The default setting for Full System scans is monthly.  This will pick up any dormant malware.

It will do no harm to scan when ever you feel it's necessary.

I hope this helps.

Dave.

Thanks, Dave.  Appreciate the response.
