I would recommend following the directions set forth in the antivirus 2008 removal instructions to remove this malware. If this does not work, please provide more details on the threat to your system. Thanks!
I did all the instructions shown on the antivirus 2008 removal instruction. I install the UnHookedExec.inf file as directed. It opened the registry but when I right click the virus registry, it didn't allow me to delete. There is no other instructions on the screen to follow.
I kept clicking to FIX and to Configure to turn ON the scan for incoming and outgoing mail but the ON doesn't stay for long. It switches back to OFF within 1 sec.
Sometimes a reboot is helpfull. Have you tried that?
i rebooted the computer almost 5 times after each full scan. what am i still not doing right ??
Merged two threads by same user together. These problems are most likely both related to the malware.
allen,
thanks for your reply but I don't understand it. ok, it's malware and i got norton so what's next ?
Please download Malwarebytes over here. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Than update and scan. Let’s see what it can do for you. Keep us posted
ok. sound like this virus is great for removal software companies. one fee to another. how interdependent. i got norton thinking that it would do one hell of a great removal job! toss it out.
What Stu has asked you to try is a freeware program so it’s not a fee based. It is a good program designed for Malware specifically. You have to understand “Malware” is a nasty little bug and it usually is let in mistakenly by the user. E-mail attachments, Misleading applications, Clicking blindly on websites or ad banners or even going to some websites are examples of how they are let in. Since it was let in by the user it bypasses Norton. This allows it to set its self in hard to remove areas or areas that Norton does not have access to remove. They change there names to look identical to Windows files making it even harder to remove. They also replicate so that if one is removed it has more hiding. Malware then starts its evil little plan by releasing or letting in viruses on your system. Norton is catching the viruses when they show there faces, but does not see the actual source bringing them in. Try the suggested program
thanks …the malware program has a one time fee of $24.95 to get it work! it’s free to download but pay to get it work!
Run the download and select the free version. It contains the scanner and removal tools needed. Real time protection is unneeded at this point. Install and update then run the scan. Get a cup of coffee it takes awhile. I have the free version currently on my system. If they for some reason do not offer the free version post again there are other malware scanners that are free that will help you. I sent you a private message couple days ago that contains another link to the same program with instructions on what to do.

I know from personal experience that their website is confusing. The real situation is that you can download the file and install their system without any charge and you can update the definitions and run the application which will work to spot and if you want remove the malware it finds. I know this because I've done it after the program was recommended here in the Forum.
What you get if you pay the fee is an unlocked version that will run in the background and check preventatively -- which in this case you don't need if you want to clean the PC.
Do believe us that it is free to use retroactively which is what most of us need especially if we have other security software running since it can be bad to run more than one at the same time.
Please provide us with the Norton Product you are using, and the exact version of the product. This information can be obtained from the Help & Support section, then click About. Also when was the last time you ran liveupdate? Additionally, it would be helpful to know the Operating System and service pack you are running. All this information will help us in resolving this issue for you, and the tools to use. Thanks!

norton internet security 2008- purchased on july 29 2008
run liveupdate before each full scan
windowns xp home edition / sp 2
Hi lilian,
If you're able to find the malware file, please submit it to https://submit.symantec.com/retail. The analysis of the malware will help us determine if this is a new threat or an existing one, and will provide you with information on removing the threat. You should receive an email with a reference number once you have submitted the malware; please post that reference number here and we can check the submission. Thanks!
If not done so already, Update your Norton Product and then boot in to Safe Mode and do a Full System Scan. Make sure all boxes are Checked in the Manual Scanning section before doing this; the Manual Scanning Section can be found in the Norton Internet Security Options.
Then, if nothing is picked up, use symantec's Online Virus Scan. If you need Web Links to this, just let me know.
How often do you Run LiveUpdate, e.g. every few hours? I would suggest running LiveUpdate every-few-hours and doing Full System Scans at least twice-a-week once this Malware has been removed (Scanning).
Let's try to remove this threat now................
Open Task manager>Click on processes tab.
Under the processes tab you can see a process which does not make any sense like asdhfcaugff .We can see different processes in different computers,so I will not be able to say the exact name(there can be digits also)
The main step of this troubleshooting is to find this process. I don't think it will be difficult to find this.
Once you find the process, with the same name you can find a folder under C:\program files.
Delete the folder.
Now go to Microsoft configuration utility( Start>Run, in the Run dialogue box type msconfig and then hit enter.)
Click on Selective startup.
Click on the startup tab and you can see a startup item with the same name(asdhfcaugff).Uncheck it and click on Apply and OK.
It will prompt you to restart, click on exit without restart.
Open IE, Tools>Manage add ons>Enable or Disable add ons.
Under the add ons you can see an add on which does not make any sense(may be with the same name.).
Disable it.
Now restart the computer and check.
yeah i have this problem too... only this thing nuked my norton antispy ware.
i can only access the uninstall options for norton. any ideas that would help?
