Scans not finishing

I've recently upgraded to NIS 2010 (I'm on Windows XP).

It's pretty neat - but I'm having a problem with scans. Whenever I do a scan, whether a QuickScan or a Full System Scan, the scan runs until the point where I'd normally expect to see the "Finish" button on the screen. But the scan appears to stop just before the end.

I"ve enclosed two screen shots to show what's appearing - in two scans I did in the last few minutes.

The only way out I know is through Task Manager - which is showing that Norton QuickScan is still running.

Appreaciate any help you can provide on this.

Cheers, Peter

What three files were being processed?

Hi. I don't know. It doesn't tell me. All I know is that there were no security risks detected.

[PS. Don't know if this is any help - but I did read soemwhere yesterday that there can be installation problems is there are two copies of msiexec.exe (I don't know what this is!) running simultaneously - and this is happening on my computer.]

Hi Peter,

Try to run a scan by booting your computer to Safe Mode. In safe mode, just double-click on the Norton icon to run full system scan. Let us know how it goes.

Howdy,

Have run a full scan in SAFE mode. All worked OK and completed successfully.

Note though, when I open NIS in normal mode, the fact that I've run a successful scan does not show up in the log.

So what does this mean?

Scans that are run in Safe Mode do not appear in Norton Security History, so this is not a concern.  I'm not sure why this is so, but of course, in Safe Mode only essential processes are running.

Hi,

From the information provided, I can say for sure that you have got at least two Threats on your computer, and this may be why your Scans are not Finishing; one would be Tacking Cookies, and the other two will be Threats.  If there are Threats Detected during a Scan in Safe Mode, these will appear in the Quarantine when your Re-Start in Normal Mode.  It is always advised to do Scans dis-connected from the Internet.

I'd suggest trying Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition Full Scans.

I'd like to see Scans in Safe Mode being Recorded by the Security History.
