Scheduling Custom Scan

Dear Users,

I want to schedule a "custom scan"without any full system scan schedule. I can't find any option that doesn't force me to do a full system scan, the option doesn't exist. Even when you install the software, by default there is a full scan scheduled.

Please advice

Arturo

Hi ameneses54,

I copied the following on scheduling custom scans from the Norton Help Center for you (to access the Help Center, open NIS, then go to "Help & Support" and then to "Help"):

Scheduling a custom scan

You have complete flexibility in scheduling custom scans. When you select how frequently you want a scan to run (daily, weekly, or monthly), you are presented with additional options. For example, you can request a daily scan, and then schedule it to occur every two days or every three days instead.

You can schedule a custom scan in the Scans window.

To schedule a custom scan

  1. In the Norton Internet Security main window, in the Computer pane, click Scan Now.
  2. Click Run Custom Scan.
  3. In the Scans dialog box, next to the custom scan that you want to schedule, click Schedule.
  4. In the Schedule dialog box, click New to enable the scheduling options.
  5. Set the frequency and time at which you want the scan to run. Most of the frequency options include the additional options that let you further refine the schedule. Set the additional options as required.
  6. When you are done, click OK.You can also create multiple schedules for a scan. For example, you can run the same scan at the beginning of your workday and at the end.

To create multiple schedules for a single scan

  1. In the Scans dialog box, next to the custom scan that you want to schedule, click Scan scheduled.
  2. In the Schedule dialog box, check Show multiple schedules.
  3. To set an additional schedule, click New.
  4. Set the frequency and time at which you want the scan to run. Most of the frequency options include the additional options that let you further refine the schedule. Set the additional options as required.
  5. Click OK.

Dear sir,

Thanks for your reply.

The instructions still don't refer to my question which refers to NOT doing a "full system scan"and only a custom scan.

Let me tell you again there seems to be no option to do only a custom scan as even in the default instalation, a full scan is scheduled.

Please advice.

No sir here... :smileytongue:

If you don't want run a full system scan, please open NIS 2010, go to "Settings" on the "Computer" tab, and under "Computer Scans", go to "Configure" and click on it. A box will appear; next to "Full System Scan", click on "Scan Scheduled". Remove the tick(s) on the day(s) on which a full system is scheduled to run.

If you want to schedule eg. a specified folder, you have to do the schedule via the Windows Scheduler.

To do this on Vista or win7 follow these steps:

1. Open Windows Scheduler (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools)

2. Click on create new

3. Give it a name

4. Set when you want to run it

5. Select what you want to run (run a program)

6. In the line you have to set the program put this: C:\Program Files\Norton...\Engine\version\navw32.exe and the argument must be x:\thefolderyouwantscan

7. Click next, and finish

EDIT: If you run winXP the programline must look this (in one line!): "C:\Program Files\Norton...\Engine\version\navw32.exe" x:\thefolderyouwantscan

Nope it can't be done.

If I uncheck all the "ticks" options I get the following message:

"Invalid weekly (or whatever chosen) task. Ensure one or more days are checked.

Please advice.

Hi,

Copied this from the Norton Help Center - you need to follow step 4 and click on "Show multiple schedules":

To delete a scan schedule

1. In the Norton Internet Security main window, in the Computer pane, click Scan Now

2. Click Run Custom Scan

3. In the Scan dialog box, next to the scan with the schedule that you want to delete, click Scan scheduled.

4. In the Schedule dialog box, do one of the following:

If multiple schedules are available, select the schedule that you want to delete.

If only one schedule is available, check Show multiple schedules.

5. Click Delete.

If you delete a Full System Scan schedule, in the Turn on Idle Time Scan dialog box, click Yes.

6. Click OK.

Thanks.

although confusing I got it right this time.
