Scheduling full system scan

I am trying to run a full system scan on a Sunday morning.  I can set up the scan in Norton but am having difficulty in running a Win 7 scheduled task to wake my computer up from hibernation so that the task scheduled in Norton Security can run.

Leaving a computer on 24/7 is not what many users prefer. If they do, they would not see the issue in this thread.

I usually leave my computer never turn off for a day before, then it will automatically scan following the schedule. But it may be different because I have a Mac

I'm not an expert on this, but you may be able to create some kind of Windows task that would wake your computer around the time you want to do your Norton scan.

Others here may know about this, or you can try searching on creating Windows tasks.

Thanks for that petyerweb. I think that will be what I shall do and see if it works. If not I will have to find something else.My thanks to all others who came up with suggestions.

I'm not sure if this would help, but I have other tasks for backups that will wake the computer from sleep or hibernation. For this to work the Wake Timers setting needs to be on.

Norton may or may not make use of this setting, but it is worth checking.

Why not just choose a time when you know the computer will be on. Such as the end of your work day, or at lunch time?

Are you saying that the scan I've set up in Norton Security will wake up the computer from hibernation at the scheduled time?

Go to your Power Settings in Control Panel. Click on Change Plan Settings beside your current power plan. Then click on Change Advanced Power Settings. Expand the Sleep settings and make sure Enable Wake Timers are enabled.

Thanks for that.  My problem is how to get this to happen if the computer is in hibernation.  I need to set up a Windows Task and I don't know what the .exe file is to start Norton Security and then the scan can run, I think.

Hello billjf. This article may explain what you need to do more clearly: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v1910914_ns_retail_en_us
