Secure VPN turns off Wi-Fi

Every time I try to turn on Secure VPN in my Norton 360, it turns off my Wi-Fi. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Norton, followed the steps on https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v135213476, as well as https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v135772009, but nothing works. It is driving me crazy and quite frankly I can't understand why this has been happening. I've lost numerous hours searching for a solution, but nothing, absolutely nothing works!

I've been using Norton for over 25 years and in the last few years, they started removing the functionality which was included in previous versions and charging separately for it, while at the same time reducing support options - hence my only option is to write a post in this forum. For a product that I have been paying all these years, this is such a terrible customer experience and quite honestly it might be the last straw which will force me to cancel my subscription.

Even though I still have more than 6 months till my subscription expires,

I've decided to switch off Norton for good and go with another product.

1) switch off Norton 360 Secure VPN for good and go with a stand-alone VPN?
2) switch off Norton 360 for good and go with another security solution that includes a VPN?

~ since, you have 6+ months...maybe, trial stand-alone VPN solutions, just to see what's what.

Regards w Respect

After months of tinkering with this and trying anything I could find on the web, I am still not even close to resolving this. I did make a slight progress, but nothing that even resembles a solution and definitely not something that is permanent. At one stage while I was manually trying every single VPN region and none of them worked, I reversed it back to Auto-select region and accidentally it picked up the American one, instead of Australian (where I am). It miraculously connected and stayed connected for a while. However, as soon as I rebooted, the auto connection reverted back to the Australian VPN region and it wouldn't budge, no matter what I do (yes, I methodically repeated the same steps as before if you're wondering smiley).

There's definitely an issue with this software and Norton is simply not doing anything to even acknowledge that they have a problem, not to mention investigate and fix it immediately. Quite honestly, for a software vendor with such a reputation, who I trusted for decades to protect all my computers, mobiles and tablets, I'm bitterly disappointed. Even though I still have more than 6 months till my subscription expires, I've decided to switch off Norton for good and go with another product.

Thanks for sharing, really appreciate it, but unfortunately it is not that case with me. As soon as I turn on the VPN the Wi-Fi turns off and it stays off until I turn the VPN off.

And for clarification as we cannot see your system.  Are you determining that wifi is turning off by the icon noted in bjm_'s post, or is your browser not connecting to any sites?  When VPN is connected, whether you are using wifi or ethernet, the icon will show as an ethernet connection. If you hover your cursor over that icon it will show two connections. One for VPN and one for your wifi.

EDIT  The information about the wifi connection icon showing as an ethernet icon that I noted above seems to only hold true for the standalone Norton Secure VPN app. Using the 360 VPN feature maintains the wifi icon.

Has this just started happening or have you always had this issue since installing Norton 360?

fwiw ~ just sharing - not trying to solve anything
Note: windows report article is for stand-alone Norton Secure VPN.

I imagine you've tried 4, 5, 6 & 7

Ahha! "turns off and stays off"... now I'm understanding.
Yeah, my Norton 360 Secure VPN is finicky.
Your Norton 360 Secure VPN is pita stubborn.
Sorry, for not initially understanding.
Thanks

as test:
~ when I turn on Norton 360 Secure VPN - my WiFi drops for a moment - then my WiFi auto connects after a moment.

~ when I turn off Norton 360 Secure VPN - my WiFi drops for a moment - then my WiFi auto connects after a moment.

~ then after a moment - my WiFi drops for a moment and sometimes does not auto connect after a moment.

~~ then after a few moments, I'll manually connect

Caveat: all my Norton 360 Secure VPN Settings toggle switches are off.

as always, your mileage may vary

All good, thanks for trying anyway smiley

Since you did not mention that you had tried these basic steps in your original post I simply offered my help to you. Maybe others will be more helpful to you than I.

So you reckon I haven't tried those basic steps? Try again, that doesn't solve anything

You can check on these settings:

1/ My Norton

2/ Settings (it is the cogwheel towards the bottom)

3/ VPN

4/ Turn off Auto VPN and turn off Kill Switch
