Issue abstract: Can I set up Norton to automatically update virus definitions?
Detailed description:
When I fire up my computer and open the Norton app, sometimes it will tell me that my virus definitions are out of date, and show me a button to click to update them. I do that, it works. I’m just surprised it requires me to click anything, and was wondering if there was a way to get it to update automatically.
I looked around the Norton app menu, but no success: If I go to Home > Security > Live Update > click “Open” it tells me I can manually update by clicking a button to “Check Now” for any virus definitions updates. Nothing else, no options for automating updates.
I found the instructions on the Norton support website for automating it in Windows, but it doesn’t seem to work on Mac, and I can’t find equivalent info for Mac yet: in the section " Make sure that Norton Automatic LiveUpdate is turned on", the instructions don’t match the options I have in the Norton menu. Specifically, it tells me to go to Settings > Antivirus, but the “Antivirus” isn’t in the settings menu. Later in the instructions it says to flip a “switch” for “automatic Live Update”, which I can’t find anywhere.
If I try using the search feature in the support.Norton website, it will tell me that automatic updates are enabled by default (doesn’t appear to be on my device), and it shows me instructions on how to run an update, not automate it.
Anybody know how?
