I recently upgraded both systems listed below from NIS 2008 to NIS 2009. Before the upgrade the printer was shared and usable immediately by both computers. Three folders on the desktop computer, including the Favorites folder of the only account we use, were shared. It all worked great with our being able to edit and print our documents (stored on the desktop PC) from either machine, and with the Favorites folder on the laptop redirected to the Favorites folder on the desktop so both machines always had the same urls listed.
For the upgrade I uninstalled NIS 2008 from both machines via the Vista “Uninstall or Change a Program” page, then ran Norton Removal Tool, then installed NIS 2009. So with the only change being the NIS 2009 upgrade I now have two problems:
1. Printing anything from the laptop now takes 1 minute 45 seconds before it actually prints and the requesting program goes “not responding” during that wait.
2. The Favorites folder seems to become unaccessable to either machine on an intermittent basis. Attempts to access it from the laptop lead to a multi-minute delay after which I get a warning that the desktop machine is no longer accessible (though I can still get to the other shared folders from the laptop). Attempts to access it from the desktop on which it actually resides lead to a blank Windows Explorer page with the slowly crawling progress bar at the top, but it never finishes or displays the contents.
Desktop:
HP A6500F
Intel Pentium Dual CPU E220, 4.0 GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit) SP1
HP Laserjet P1006
Cabled to router
Laptop:
Compaq Presario C700 Notebook
Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2390, 2.0 GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
Wireless connection to router
Router:
LinkSys WRT54G2Cabled to DSL modem
Just as further info I repeated the install. After the Norton Removal tool ran I tested the two computers sharing access (with the router disconnected from the Internet of course) and printing worked immediately, plus I saw no hangs on the Favorites folder. Reinstalled NIS 2009 and both problems came back.
One more piece of information: after the uninstall, Norton Removal Tool, and reinstallation I never was asked to re-enter my product keys. Both machines came up with the correct number of days remaining in my subscriptions, so it seems like the removal wasn’t complete. But I’ve gone through it twice now!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I like the speed improvement of NIS 2009. But I really can’t stay on it with these problems.
