Shop Bought Product - 360 V5 - Exclusive Gold Edition

Hi, I have come on here in desperation as I can not find anybody within Norton to help me.

I bought a new PC from PC World and at the same time purchased Norton 360 V5 Gold Edition.

The pc came with a trial version of Norton already installed so there was no need to install the copy thati bought.

The trial period will finish soon and despite daily request from Norton to purchase another copy i have been totally unable to find anywhere to enter the product key despite spending about 8 hours on this task.  I've logged onto my NortonAccount but that just sends me to buy download version of 360.  There does not seem to be any provision for installing shop bought products.

I 'spoke' to a virtual help desk that was totally useless.

This would not seem to be too difficult to do. Or at least that is what i had anticipated.

Can any of you wise people walk me through this because Norton do not seem to want to.

Thanks in advance

Hi CaughtOut,

Welcome to Norton Community!

Normally, you can click Account in Norton 360 product interface, and then use the option Renew Subscription. There you can find the option to enter the Product Key from the CD. If you gets "Invalid Product key" message, then it mean that you are having Norton 360 Standard Edition or Premier Edition. You may have to download and install Norton 360 Netbook Edition in order to use the Product Key from CD.(You have to do this if you don't have Account option in Norton 360)

In that case, you can download the Norton 360 Netbook Edition from the following Symantec KB:

http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

Then install the Netbook edition and use the Product Key from the CD for activation. Let us know if this works for you.

Yogesh

Yogesh,

I'm sorry but I don't understand <<  You may have to download and install Norton 360 Netbook Edition in order to use the Product Key from CD  >> ......

SInce the netbook edition doesn't come on a CD no CD-KEY will work with the netbook edition -- and I don't see any reference to netbook in the original message ....

Hi Hugh,

Hope you remember the following thread:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/360-5-0-on-Netbook/m-p/496002

Gold edition is the CD version of Norton 360 Netbook Edition which is available on stores across UK.

Not in my memory bank -- must have purged all temp files .....

All I can say is Weird ...... you'd think marketing would make a point of "You can install on normal or netbook PCs ....."

Thanks for all the replies.  I actually thought that my note had been deleted.

One poster mentioned that the 360 Gold in the CD version.   The computer that i bought does not have a cd drive.

Its a 32 bit Samsung notebook.

I've clicked just about everywhere but can not find any option to enter a Product Key.

Here are the steps to activate Norton 360:

  • Make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet.

  • Start Norton 360.

  • On the bottom-right corner of the Norton product window, click Activate Now or Renew.

  • Type in your Product Key.

  • Click Next.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

  • When finished, review your subscription details, and then click Done.

yes, thank you...but when i click on RENEW....i get directed to  a page trying to sell me downloadable versions that i have to pay for.

There is a NortonAccount icon at the bottom of the page which i have logged into but that just starts the same procedure again.

It may be that it has to be loaded via a CD that i don't have and that there is no provision to enter a Product Key directly even thought i have it as it come with the CD in the same box.

It's a bit odd.  I wish that i could find a way to contact Norton and ask then to install it.

Hi CaughtOut,

Please read my previous post carefully, I have provided the renewal instructions as well as download instructions in case the renewal part doesn't work.

Let me know if it works.

Yogesh

Hi Yogesh,

Well, I've managed to download a 'trial' version of Noton 360 Premier V5 via the link you advised....thanks

a) i got messages saying that the install was not complete, but the final screen seemed to indicate that it was OK

b) still wonder if 360 Premier is comptable with a Netbook.

c) Only got a 30 trial not the full year I might have hoped for.

that said..thanks very much, I shall monitor things over the next hours/days

I htink the confusion may be that there are two messages from different people on how to insert the KEY. The one to follow, with all respect to Cyberlife <s>, is the one by Yogesh which is here:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Shop-Bought-Product-360-V5-Exclusive-Gold-Edition/m-p/507750#M52269

I would have told you to click on Subscribe or Renew but I don't use Norton 360 and Yogesh has inside information on this odd-ball version you have. You need to follow Yogesh's instructions for inserting the KEY and/or for downloading your specific version -- the GOLD version.

Caughtout ...

Your message and replies are still at:-

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Norton-360-Product-Key/m-p/508172#M52317

and to me the whole situation is confused because the original poster here bought the GOLD edition which it seems is largelyu a UK product and although you refer to that you don't say whether you bought the GOLD edition or not!

This is critical to what you should do in terms of downloading and using the KEY.

Can you say clearly whether you started with the GOLD edition and that is what you are trying to install and activate?

Yogish/Hugh...and all those who have contributed...thanks.

I followed the advice of Yogish..and the following occurred.

a) i downloaded 360 Premiem V5

b) when download was complete i was prompted to enter my Product Key

c) I entered the Product Key i.e from the original 360 Gold Edition

d) Recieved prompt telling me that Product Key was not for Premiem but for Standard 360 V5

e) Dowloaded Standard 360 V5, download seemed to go well, took 60 mins, should have overwritten 360 Premiem

f) Final prompt - enter e-mail address, which i did.

g) NortonAccount also tells me that i have 360 V5 Premiem

So, this is great news even though i don't fully undestand.  It must be premiem because of all the features that the product offers.  It really is good.

The trial will expire in 30 days so i will then again follow Yogish's advice and take care to download 360 V5 Standard and then enter the product key for the Gold Product and that i think will work.

I think that the problem arrises because it seems to require an external CD to install Gold for netbook.  Of course most netbooks don't have an internal CD.

So, please consider the thread to be closed.   I may be back in a months time if the installation of 360 V5 Standard plays up.

So from all that I conclude that you cannot go from N 360 Premier to N 360 Standard when you have Premier installed just by downloading and installing the Standard ......

Which is useful to know since it is a question that comes up from time to time. For safety I've always said to use the WIndows Uninstall and then the Norton Remvoval Tool -- not the newer Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool which will automatically reinstall what you have asked it to remvove and clean up -- and then download and install in the normal way.

I forget whether you said you had a very slow download ISP but 60 minutes is excessive!

I'll let Yogesh tell you what you should do at the end of the trial since it seems to me you will need to get rid of the Premier that you have now got installed when you say << g) NortonAccount also tells me that i have 360 V5 Premiem >> if the CD key is in fact for the Standard version .......

HI Yogish,

Remember me?  I've just followed your previous instruction and installed the N360 V5 Gold which i bought in a shop in the UK.  I deinstalled the Premium N360 first.   The whole thing was done in about 10 mins.

I shall keep an eye on the software and maybe come back to you in it does not work out as planned.  But hopefully I now have one years protection.

thanks again

Thanks for letting us know that you have it all working again now ....

Hi palmtrees,

You can download N360 Gold Edition from - http://uk.norton.com/now/en/GB_SITE/pu/images/Promotions/2013/gold/Norton_Gold_LP.html.  Then just activate it with your Poduct Key.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks.

Follow Krusty's suggestion since the N360 Gold edition is a special version and in the UK when bought from Curries or PCWorld often seems to have problems in activation. If you still have a problem then I'd suggest getting in touch with Curries as the next thing to try.

Please let us know how you get on.
