As Mattsegers advised, no two real-time antivirus engines work together. They will both have tamper protection which causes the system to hang while they try and fail to scan each other, or it causes a situation like catching a fly ball in baseball. Each thinks the other has it and don't bother, or they interfere with each other and drop the ball.
Any on demand scanner, like Windows Defender, on demand only, or Malwarbytes, or SAS provide additional protection via wekly scans to clean up anything missed, without slowing your system down, or interfering with Norton's normal operations.

Any Products which does not have Real-Time Protection, such as SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition, as well as Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware free edition.

Webroot updated SpySweeper after Norton 2009 so it was compatible I think it is Ver 6.1 and above.
and Counterspy and Norton last time I tested are happy together. (Counterspy only not their Antivirus and Counterspy product)
No to Spyware Doctor in Realtime and Norton, Slows the startup time big time.
No to AD-Aware with realtime and Norton
No to Spybot S&D with TeaTimer installed.
