SIM card lock

Have just installed Norton Mobile on Android phone, reading through I see there is a SIM card lock - "instantly locks your phone if its SIM card is removed, so thieves can't use it with a different SIM card". – is this only if this is set up or activated? Or is it a default setting that can’t be changed… as when we travel we DO WANT to change the SIM card… or does this happen only when using the web or SMS “lock device” instruction (i.e. are SIM card lock and lock device the same thing)? I've been online and see the instructions that can be done via web or SMS but there wasn't any instruction there re "SIM card lock", just "lock your device", thanks - I'm new to Norton mobile, any other hints appreciated!

Hi Gingerbread

Welcome to the Norton Community.  :smileywink:

The setting for Sim Card Lock can be found in the Norton Mobile Security (NMS)

settings, and by default it is not enabled.

Just open the NMS app and tap Menu then Settings and swipe down to Sim Card

Lock and tick the box if you wish to enable the NMS security feature. :)

Then if you need to swap the sim yourself you can disable the feature first by going

back to the NMS app settings and if you forget to disable before swapping the sim

then you just have to enter your 4 digit passcode needed to unlock the device as it

will lock if you swap the sim without disabling Sim Card Lock feature.

And Remote Lock and Sim Card Lock are 2 different features of NMS, as Sim Card

Lock is explained above and Remote Lock is the feature that can be activated by SMS

or from the NMS website Control Panel using the link below -

https://mobilesecurity.norton.com/

Login with your devices NMS Norton Account details and select the device to manage

and use the remote commands for the particular feature that you wish to use, or just

change the the 4 digit passcode to what ever you wish. :)

I hope that info helps. :smileyhappy:

Cheers. :smileywink:

Hi Smithy!

Thanks so much for this info, what a relief!!! :smileyhappy: I've just been into the phone NMS app and it looks like I must have just a basic version, as my options are:

Anti-Malware (secure)

Anti-Theft (SMS only)

Backup (not available) - greyed out

Call Blocking (not available) - greyed out

Web Protection (not available) - greyed out

Norton Apps - Other Norton Apps

at the bottom "Upgrade to full version"...

So been into Anti theft and the lock SIM doesn't show there... do you know if it's in any of the other Norton Apps - when I tap Other Norton Apps options are - also do you think any of these are wise/useful etc...

Mobile utilities - free

Anti-Theft phone finder - free

Halt exploit defender - free

Identity safe password - free (only if was going to do banking etc would I need this?)

Parental control - free (wouldn't need this)

One mobile component - free

(Have Mobile Security & Snap qr code reader already installed...)

It's interesting that in the NMS on the phone under Anti-Theft that it shows using SMS can lock device, and all the other options (remote scream/locate/sneak peek/wipe) are greyed out and says have to upgrade to premium to add these, yet when I was online in PC web version it seemed to indicate I could do these actions from a PC - any thoughts?...

I really appreciate your help!!! :smileyvery-happy:

Hi Gingerbread

To be able to use the Sim Card Lock and all of the greyed out features

in the NMS app you will need to upgrade to the paid full version.

As for the NMS website Control Panel and NMS Lite it should request

that you Upgrade from the device to access the features of the web

remote commands, which means you can only use the SMS Lock

command to lock your device while using NMS Lite.

Another app of Norton's you mentioned is the Norton Anti-Theft (NAT)

app which you do not need if you are using NMS, as NMS does what

NAT does plus more. :)

And you mentioned some other other Norton Android apps and whether

or not to use them and are they usefull.?

Identity Safe is great if you have Norton 360 or Norton Internet Security

installed on your PC and you use the Password Vault Cloud feature which

is great for accessing those login details and passwords for the web.

Norton One mobile component is an app for if you have the Norton One

Symantec product only.

Norton Mobile Utilities (NMU) is great for detailed info about your Android

device and apps and also to help with the performance and battery life.

Snap as you mentioned you already have is a must have app for the QR

codes . :)

Norton Halt is a must have as well for security against the USSD threat.

Then there is the Norton Family for parents to have there children protected

on the web.

And the last 2 that you missed being Norton Spot for add detection on your

device is a handy app to have and Norton Zone for cloud storage and sharing

between Android devices and PC's.

So it is really up to the user and which Norton apps they will have a use for on

their Android device or devices. :)

I hope that info helps with your questions.:smileyhappy:

Cheers. :smileywink:
