I have noticed when I have been accessing MYNorton account /Account Settings that the Backup Codes have seemingly refreshed by them selves. I have searched thru the community and cant find anything.I have now had two occurrences this week, however on reflection on both times the machines I have logged on via two separate devices ticking the Trusted device box. My secondary security is via Authenticator app. The single us backup is I assume in addition . So Q is do single use backup codes automatically regenerate when you sign in a a new trusted device?
I believe that the codes that are generated will assign a single code "NEW" for each device that is registered. When/if there aren't any codes to assign to devices already registered, you then have used those codes, they DO NOT regenerate. Please see #4 of my previous post, you'd then need to "get new codes" to add additional devices. My side I DO NOT use the authenticator app for personal reasons, 2FA via my mobile device, provides me with the protection I need without any of the additional hassles apps can and do present fairly regularly. Maybe someone who uses the app or another method, can chime it for additional feedback. My theory is one time codes do not regenerate based on the Norton article presented.
Below is what I see within my account. I would ONLY use on of these codes IF, all other backup methods fail. Please note that is states these are exclusively ONE TIME use. When used they will show a strike through line indicating such. To test you can add a new device, click get codes and compare to the ones you previously have. That then would be the only scenario where new codes would be generated.
In the top-right corner of the page, hover over your profile icon and then click Account Settings.
In the Two-Factor Authentication section, click Show codes.
<p>If you have used a code, it appears as a strikethrough number. You cannot use this code for future logins.</p>

<li>
<p><u>If you have used all your backup codes or want to get new backup codes, click <strong>Get New Codes</strong>.</u></p>
<p>If you get new backup codes, your current backup codes will no longer work.</p>
</li>
Edited: I ASSUME that a 6 digit code is assigned at the time of registration, its not at all clear if those quantify as used and a new code is generated each time using the app.
