Hi, I was trying to login to amazon.com and I checked the site safety info of the login page. The page was identified as ssl-images-amazon.com. I reloaded the page and checked the site safety info again and the site was identified as amazon.com. I’m not sure what ssl-images-amazon.com was so I asked customer service if that was a legitimate login page. They said that that was not normal and might be the result of adware. I don’t think that it is however. I tried googling ssl-images-amazon.com but didn’t find out much outside of a site advisory which determined it to be safe, but I’m not sure. What is the reasons for the discrepancy in the site safety info?
Thanks.
emirpk,SSL is Secure Sockets Layer,. It's a protocol for transmitting private documents, such as you would be doing when logging into sites like Amazon. Maybe it's a little like when a site goes from http to https, which signifies it's a secure site...
Hi emirpk,
Images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com is the address for images that appear on secure Amazon pages, such as the log-in page. Each image you see on your sign-in page (the Amazon logo, for example) will require a connection to ssl-images-amazon.com as you view the main page. I'm not sure why a site safety check would have looked up the URL of one of the images, but it really shouldn't be a cause for concern.
Thank you both. I also noticed ssl-images-amazon.com in the page source as the location of some of the images on the login page. I just wanted to be sure that I wasn’t being redirected to some phishing site. That was the only time site safety identified the login page as ssl-images-amazon.com and I haven’t been able to reproduce the same result since. But your explanations lead me to believe that this is nothing to worry about. Thanks again.
Hi again,
I was able to reproduce the same safe web info today, thought i would share. Below is a picture of what I'm seeing. It normally says amazon.com for the site whereas in the picture it says ssl-images.amazon.com (this time it was for the my account page rather than the log in page). When I click on full report it brings me to the safe web page for amazon.com so I guess it's safe? One thing though is the website location is Ireland, is that accurate? Could this be the result of clicking on safe web info before the site fully loads because I know that sometimes messes things up? I apologize for being so paranoid, thanks again for all your help =).
Hi emirpk
One reason the site is based in Ireland may be for business tax reasons.
