Skipped files during full system scans

I realized that after scans are completed with norton 360 there are skipped files. Why? I want all my files to be scanned and not skipped. Is there a problem with my product or why does this happen.

P.S. The skipped files are not trusted files!

Hello derekroolz

Welcome to the Norton Users Discussion Forum

I don't use N360, but you can check to see if there is a setting for Scan Performance Profiles. If there is such a setting in your product, then change it to full scan.  The skipped files are those with digital signatures. The standard trust setting will skip both the trusted files and the ones with digital signatures.

How this comment may be related is uncertain, yet let's try:

Norton 360 seems to only run a quickscan when I choose to do a Virus and Spyware Scan; if I choose to do this Virus and Spyware Scan a second time, Norton 360 THEN SCANS ALL OF THE COMPUTER'S FILES.  The point is that I must choose to run a second scan to have the full scan of files performed.

What is your version of N360?  The version number is available in the Help > About menu from the main GUI.

How are you starting the scan?  From the main GUI hot link (bottom left hand blue links)?  Did you select the Comprehensive Scan?

The way I choose my scans is through the main window links, Run Scans; and then usually I choose QuickScan, but sometimes I choose Let Me Choose, and then I put check marks on Virus And Spyware Scan and a few other items.

As I said, when I choose Virus And Spyware Scan (NOT the QuickScan), the first run seems to only make a quick scan; if I choose to then repeat the scan, Norton 360 performs a thorough scan.  Somehow, I suspect but do not know for sure that this was a design feature, but I have not seen helpfile or other documentation explaining this.

Hi derekrootz,

If you are referring to the skipped files that are shown in the "Total items scanned" list in the Scan Details, this is normal and is nothing to worry about.  Skipped files are files that have been previously scanned and are unchanged since the last scan.  They are known to be clean and are not rescanned in order to save time and resources.
