Skype problem with Norton Firewall still exists

I have recently installed NIS on my iMac and have warnings from Norton Firewall when I am trying to use Skype. It is extremely irritating to be asked if you wish to Block or Allow a connection when you don't know who the attempted connection refers to. I think I may be blocking the person I am trying to connect to as I don't know their IP address. This problem did not occur with NIS on Windows. Why do we Mac users have to put up with this? There was a post on this subject in 2010 and it is still not fixed. My OS is Mac 10.6.8.

Any help would be appreciated.

The Windows product works quite differently. The SONAR feature in Norton Internet Security 2012 always allows most connections and then monitor it for suspicious activity, killing the connection when they detect something suspicious. We can't take the same type of functionality because of limitations in Mac OS X, and limited malware on Mac OS X to compare for "suspicious" activity.

You can configure Skype to always allow connections Skype. That's actually what will happen in Norton Internet Security 5, but you are using the old version since  you mentioned you are using 10.6.8.

To configure Skype to be always allowed in NIS 4:

1. Open the Norton Firewall application and click on the Firewall tab.

2. Under Connection Blocking, click on the Configure button and enter your password when asked.

3. Click on the Assist me… button

4. You want to allow a computer to access an application (Skype). Choose "Any computer". When you're done with the Assistant the changes to the firewall should read "Allow all computers to access Skype".

Let me know if this helps.
