Issue abstract: Computer is slow since installing Norton

Detailed description: I have ran all available tests on an HP laptop through HP for processor, RAM, etc speeds and all come back passing. Ever since downloading Norton on this laptop it has been running slower and makes things take longer to load. I am trying to rule things out and would like to try to pause norton for a week or so to see if it is Norton slowing the computer down. How do I do this? If I can’t ā€œpauseā€ can I delete and remove and then reinstall a week or so later with the same product key if I am using the same laptop and same account information?

Product & version number: Norton 360 Standard, IDK version number

Hello @crjordan2006
and you’ve run Norton LiveUpdate a few times and restarted (not Shut down) machine a few times and you’ve run one full scan?.. with same slowness?

====

  • ā€œpauseā€ is not an option
  • temporary disable protection features is an option…but, won’t be conclusive
  • best to remove Norton - run Windows Security (other) for a while…as test

Norton 360 Standard v22 or v24?
Norton 360 Standard [here]

You may install – uninstall – reinstall on the same machine – as needed.
The same seat is used when installing – reinstalling on the same device.

I am having the same issue with Norton 360 Premium.
On the previous version of Norton 360 my PC took around 10 seconds to become usable. After installing Norton 360 Premium when my previous version expired, the time to become usable went up to 41 seconds, and as the days went on it got increasingly worse, rising to almost 90 seconds! This is on Windows 11.

I decided a clean install wouldn’t be a bad idea so I reinstalled Windows 11 without keeping any of my apps. Then installed apps one-by-one and checked startup time. Everything was OK (around 7 seconds to a usable system) until I installed Norton, then it took around 42 seconds. Even then apps were taking a while to open.

Something is not right and hopefully a fix will come soon. In the meantime I have removed Norton and will rely on Windows Defender for a while.

Any answers NORTON SUPPORT?

OK, after speaking to Norton Support and he took over my machine and installed Norton again. This time he installed version 22.23.10.10 (the one I downloaded was 22.24 AFAIK).
The first time it rebooted it was still slow. Then we had a power cut (wouldn’t you know it). Now I’ve rebooted it seems to be back to normal.
Time will tell.

Norton 22.24.2.6

Didn’t take a note of the version I originally downloaded (from Norton) but the icon in the task bar is different on this version. I think that first attempt was V24.10.805.1 (I still have the download).
Norton support simply installed V22 and did some ā€˜tune-up’, which I had already tried. The tried to sell me Norton Utilities to 'improve my startup times.

All seems to be OK with version V22.

Norton Security 22.24.8.36 for Windows is now available! [here]

An update:

So with Version V22 working fine my PC was sprinting along, then last night I got the latest V24 auto update and guess what, my PC is labouring again!!!

Norton MUST know about the problem, otherwise why did Support install V22 on my machine?
Been a customer of Norton for many years but now considering other options.

FIX THIS PROBLEM NORTON, don’t just keep rolling out a faulty version.

I’ve got 185 days left on my sub and I think I’m done. A local business hand built a PC for me and persuaded me to have Norton. Wish I’d never listened. Your product was crap when I tried it 20 years ago and it’s just as bad now.

It keeps pushing my disc to 100% and, try as I might to ā€œtrainā€ it (adding exemptions, switching just about everything off), it’s just sooooooooo slow. Everything is locking up several times a day (Win 11).

Looking for a new AV…
