SMART SCAN gets triggered

I use an external USB drive for data. Every time is activates this triggers a SMART SCAN request. Its very annoying

 JessieLC:
But what good is Smart Scan if its cant scan my USB drive where all data is?

Yeah, what good is Smart Scan with ext drive.

USB Drive Scan calls Norton QuickScan.

as test:
USB Drive Scan - On => ext drive plug in = QuickScan.
USB Drive Scan - Ask Me => Would you like to scan this USB drive for threats.  Yes = QuickScan

I do not see Smart Scan.  Maybe, because my Auto Smart Scan is Off.
What's your Auto Smart Scan On/Off?
I've no need for Auto Smart Scan...On.
I've no need for my ext drive plugged in...all the time.

Sorry I have had issues with laptop including having to re-install Win 11. Re-installed Norton 360. Set up as having Smart Scan on Auto with USB Drive set to On. What to do with infected files Ask Me.

Now anytime my USB Drive is used, SMART Scan is triggered to run and Win Explorer opens to show USB drive. its aggravating Norton cant differentiate USB external drives from flash drives, thumb drives, SD cards etc.

Turning USB Drive scan OFF.  But what good is Smart Scan if its cant scan my USB drive where all data is? Frustrated!

im not for certain this is what you are referring to but i do know that there is a usb scan option

says something along the lines of ( not word for word) scan always, ask me, or never

let me find it here

antivirus setting than scans and risk

third option down is what i was referencing

plug in a usb or something and get the nag ( asking) that would stop that

JessieLC:

Is your Smart Scan set on Auto Smart Scan? Auto Protect is on
Have you tried Auto Smart Scan Off or Edit schedule? Trying a schedule to see if this stops triggering.

Not Auto-Protect.
Auto Smart Scan > Off

USB Drive Scan On | Off | Ask Me

Is external drive always plugged in?

yes

What activates external drive?

I keep all data/files on this drive. Its always available for programs and user access on my laptop

Care to post a Smart Scan request - screen snip.
I'm not recalling a Smart Scan request plugging in my ext drive.
Thanks

USB Drive Scan
Scans and repairs the files inside the USB drive.
When you turn on this feature, your Norton product scans and detects viruses and other security risks in the files in your USB drive and removes the infected files. You can choose how you want your Norton product to handle the infected files.

Maybe, you'd prefer USB Scan = Off?
