Smart Scan Norton360 for Windows

I am not happy with Norton Support in resolving issues with the added feature of "Smart Scan" which I have 5 devices protected, and twice after experiencing issues with Smart Scan

1st time) 14 Apr 2021 emerged an issue with Norton360, ran Autofix not correcting issue, suggestion to run NRnR having followed steps running NRnR, reinstalling from Norton Installation Files, did not correct the missing feature of "Smart Scan" called Norton Tech Support, were able to fix after an hour or more.

I also run Norton Eraser before running NRnR.

2nd time) 25 Jul 2021, issue with Auto Protect not enabling, ran Autofix not correcting issue, then suggestion to run NRnR and Reinstall, once again "Smart Scan" did not appear as an option, called Tech Support, 2nd call 2.5 hours of Support access of my PC, could not resolve Smart Scan missing, was escalated to next level, again Support was not able to Fix/Correct Smart Scan option from appearing on Norton Main Screen. Only I have not received a call as of 11 Aug 2021. I have both Case Numbers for reference, if needed.

Although Re-installing Norton360 several times after NRnR...Autofix Reports "We did not find any issues with Norton360" My other 4 devices show "Smart Scan" as an option Main Norton Screen. Norton Premium Utilities has not help to resolve either.

Windows 10 Home, has all current MS Updates, same of Norton360. Still waiting for 3rd Escalated Call

Most here will not open .pdf files from an unknown source for security reasons.

As of 12:57 PM MST - 12 Aug 2021 Norton360 is Up-to-Date

Yes I am aware when using Norton's Installation Folder will have the original Norton360 that I installed at time of Purchase of/for my PC's. I do not know who We Suggest Is, nor my ever having this link provided http://www.norton.com/cspn360 before.

I have also used AutoDetectPkg.exe which I think would provide updated Norton360 current version after updates from original installation date, as I do follow all updates, patches & install daily if any.

I would think that Norton Tech's having spent over 2.5 hrs using Remote Assistance would of thought to use the same CSPN360 file of DSP-N360-ESD-22.21.5.44-EN.exe which is not the same as the other link Norton Security 22.21.1.151 for Windows is now available! | Norton Community that you Permalink had shared earlier.

Which I just downloaded for the first time, DSP-N360-ESD-22.21.5.44-EN.exe 192MB. Which my current version is v22.21.6.53

So I believe my v22.21.6.53 is newer than 22.21.5.44 and 22.21.1.151 if I am not mistaken.

In April 2019, Norton Security was replaced by Norton 360.

As of July 24, 2021:

 • The latest version of Norton for Windows is version number 22.21.6.51. This patch version also applies to legacy Norton security software products, as follows:

Norton Security

Norton 360

Norton Internet Security

Norton Antivirus

Norton Security Online

However, I want Norton Fixed remotely by their Tech's as they began this time 25 Jul, Case# 63896450 last time was 14 Apr 2021 Case# 62231446

I personally do not care about whether or not "Smart Scan" is terrible or not. I have used "Smart Scan" on this PC the with issues, also on my other two PC's. Which "Smart Scan" will not appear on my other 2 devices a Lenovo 10" tablet or LG SmartPhone which make up 2 of my 5 licensed devices, the other 3 are this Dell PC Win10 Home and 2 Acer's running Win10 Pro.

I have been a paid subscriber of Norton since 1994, with 38 combined years using PC's and am ware of Bloatware and other 3rd Party crap...which by most part I eliminate from running, blocking, uninstall or disable, that I do not want running. MS Windows always has had issues of every Version I have used since Windows 3.0.

As for "Smart Scan" whenever it became a part of Norton360 has always worked, until after an issue with Norton360 developing an Error and having multiple times ran PowerEraser, NRnr.exe and Reinstalled Norton360 several times as well as Norton Tech's using Remote Assistance have performed the same steps and more, still are not able to correct or fix "Smart Scan" appearing as an option on this Dell PC, running Win10 Home.

"Smart Scan" has always appeared on the 2 Acer Windows 10 Pro, has not been an issue. Which my current Norton360 version is 22.21.6.51 on this Dell PC

Again, I want Norton to work as it should, and has before on this PC, same of the other 2 PC's, that I am paying for. For me it Does not matter if Daily Quick Scans are sufficient or not.

Appreciate your taking the time and input about how you feel and of your experiences of Norton360.

@FireDocUSMC

You mention

then NRnR.exe, using Norton Installation Files folder or N360Downloader.exe,

Using the Installation Files folder will almost always have an earlier version that what is available from the Norton download servers. This is the first thing that a NRNR will look for if not using the Advanced Remove Only. Possibly the same for the N360downloader.exe, unless you are using this download link http://www.norton.com/cspn360 . That is why we suggest going to your Norton Account to initiate the download and install. That will always get the latest version available for download. Then you run LiveUpdate, in case there are any pending Patches for that downloaded version

I am not sure but I think Smart Scan is not available to every Norton user.

 • The release of this feature is throttled.

Norton Security 22.21.1.151 for Windows is now available! | Norton Community

Actually it is a terrible feature because it tries to let you buy addition products and services from Norton. Quick scan is enough,

I have been using Norton since 1994, on several computers, tablet, smartphone...so I am very experienced in resolving Glitches with 38 yrs using Computers & Windows OS's...

Yes, I used Advanced, even uninstalled Malwarebytes. The NORTON TECH's now 3 of them...tried to resolve and Could not via Remote Support Support-LogMeInRescue. This has happened before same PC of 5 on 14 Apr 2021 Case#62231446, which the Tech did resolve.

Every-time I encounter a Glitch with Norton on this PC, not the other devices, usually ends up running AutoFix, then NRnR.exe, using Norton Installation Files folder or N360Downloader.exe, of which many times I run PowerEraser as my first process to correct errors.

2nd time 24 Jul 2021 - Error-3038,104, which ended up a 2.5 hour with Tech Remote Support, which was escalated again this time to Level Three. Which Norton Tech's have not called back of this escalation.

I also run SFC /scannow and I may run DISM-Deployment-Image-Servicing-and-Management-Tool to Scanhealth and RestoreHealth of Windows 10 Home.

I keep my Systems Updated frequently, including Security, Critical Updates, without issue, and know how to use troubleshooting options for Windows OS in the event I do encounter a Glitch in Updating, Downloading, Networking, as well as running System Maintenance options.

Win10 Home OS - Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1151) I run Norton updates daily, sometimes more than once, file Clean-Up, Browser Caches, I use Norton Utilities Premium, Norton Scans and Malwarebytes daily, also Dell Support Assist Tool to Optimize Network, Performance and Clean Files. I use DriverEasy to update drivers Windows OS does not.

Nothing seems to work, and at this Point, I am not all that concerned with "Smart Scan" just that I have been a Paid User of Norton since 1994, protecting many Systems, I want what I pay for, so if Norton has new options, I want them to work, same of LiveUpdate and the same of Microsoft's OS.

So if Norton cannot fix their own security software, is a let down and who knows what the next update may or may not produce.

Thanks for asking, D.R. "Doc" Young

There is nothing to deactivate. Just do not use it . It is only an on demand scanner with no background features running.

Hello, I have the same problem. On my desktop there is Smart Scan (and I dont need it, i actually want to deactivate it) and on my Notebook there is no Smart Scan. I want to deactivate oder deinstall it.

I still don't have Smart Scan here and I'm not worried about it. I actually don't want Smart Scan.

reinstalling from Norton Installation Files, did not correct the missing feature of "Smart Scan" called Norton Tech Support, were able to fix after an hour or more.

Were these installation files already on your computer, or did you download fresh files from your Norton Account? Older files could be older than when Norton introduced the Smart Scan feature. You would have had to run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available to get to the version that would have the new feature.

Although Re-installing Norton360 several times after NRnR

When you run NRNR did you use the Advanced Options > Remove only? Then download a fresh install from your Norton Account.
