Issue abstract:
Detailed description:
The system environment is Windows 11 24H2, Norton 360 Premium (25.8.1.387 Build 25.8.1.387.948), and when I selected to update Office 2024 to the latest version from Norton 360 Premium Performance → Software Updater, the result was as shown below, and the status was such that the update was not possible, as if the app was stopped midway.
See screenshot below
The status of Office 2024 installed from Windows 11 settings is updated to 16.0.19127.20192

have a question
Why doesn’t the status of Norton software update change even though it has been updated to the latest version? I performed the same operation on a Windows 10 machine, and it completed without any problems on the Windows 10 machine. Incidentally, the versions of each application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) are at the latest level.
Product & version number:Norton360 25.8.10387(build 25.8.10387.948)
OS details:Windows11 24H2
What is the error message you are seeing?

I don’t really understand what you’re saying. The download completes successfully, but during the installation, a message appears saying the app will be closed and the installation process is halted. However, Office24 updates to the new version.

I checked again today and the issue had disappeared, and the software updater still said there were no apps that needed updating. I’m not sure why the issue was fixed, but I consider this issue resolved.
@yo-ta Here on the forums our recommendation is to use EXTREME CAUTION when using Software Updater AND Driver Updater add-ons. Both can render your computer not usable in certain instances like the one you experienced. Update your software from the website/webstore of the creators to be sure you are getting a legitimate upgrade/update.
Thank you for the update. I understand what you’re saying. So in this case, you’re saying that you need to update via the official Microsoft website, rather than updating to the latest version using Norton Updater. So, if there’s a problem with updating Norton Updater, I think you should direct users to the Microsoft website.
I don’t think it’s appropriate for users to make that decision on their own case…
We are not directing users to Microsoft websites, just suggesting using Windows Updates as they are a far safer source than 3rd party software. The appropriateness is helping end users prevent having their devices rendered not usable when they rely on snake oil software. Using DU has done that in several cases already posted here on the forums.
I don’t think it’s appropriate for users to make that decision on their own case
Microsoft and OEM vendors ( device manufacturers ) work together to provide drivers and security fixes/updates to Windows users via Windows Updates. They are the preferred method to keep Windows systems performing as they are designed to without the need for third party software. Users either set Windows Updates to install automatically, or, will run and install them manually. Its a user choice.
Alternatively, manufacturers like Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. also provide support websites that also list drivers and other updates for current devices as well as for some older legacy devices they still support. Again, going straight to the company who designed and created software for their systems is also a safer choice.
AI Overview
To upgrade to Office 2024, you can purchase the one-time payment version from Microsoft or your preferred vendor, download and install it, and then uninstall any older versions of Office to avoid conflicts. If you already have a Microsoft 365 subscription, you are already using the latest version and do not need to purchase Office 2024, as your subscription includes the same and more features.
Upgrading from an older perpetual license (e.g., Office 2021, 2019):
If you have a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, you already have the latest version of Office with all the features of Office 2024 and more, according to Microsoft Support.
2.Check for updates:
Ensure your Office applications are up to date by checking for updates in the app settings, as this ensures you receive the newest features.
Thank you for the update. I understand what you’re saying. Thank you for your support. Normally, Office24 updates can be updated directly from the Office app, by checking and updating through Windows settings, or by updating during initial setup. From the Norton 360 menu, select Performance > Software Updates (this keeps installed apps up to date for enhanced security). If a new version is available, the current version and available updates are displayed, and you are prompted to click the update button on the right. I believe you’re absolutely correct, and I usually follow that procedure. In this case, I proceeded with the update because there was a button to update to the new version on the Norton website. As a result, the issue described above occurred. You say that it’s a safer option to contact the company that designed and developed the system software directly. So, you’re saying that Norton is merely supplementary information, and that it’s wise to avoid any further changes, and that avoiding clicking the Norton update button is the safest option. I understand your point and will use it in future operations. Thank you. .
