Software Updater Never Finishes. Cannot close

I just types a long entry explaining how Software Updater looped, was not cancel, could not close, had to be shutdown in task manager.  Then this blogging tool highlighted my text and erased my entry.  So, I'm starting over below...

Bottom line, Software Updater reported update to a program that had no updates and attempted to update the software anyway.  I was on latest version.  Shuting down the updater triggered a DOS uppercase table error.  My system was not recoverable, could not reboot.  Had to do clean reinstall using Microsoft Media US.  Lost all my data, OS and software.   Spend days reinstalling Windows 11, needed to purchase ethnernet to USB adapter, restore all my files, reconfigure, download updates, additional apps, etc.  I blame HP for all of this.  This occurred on a 13 month old HP AMD laptop.

Software updater was the trigger to the chain of events.  That error presists.  It is once again reporting an update to Open Office saying I'm on an earlier version.  Actually I'm on the most recent version as confirmed by OpenOffice update checker.  I was once again forced to kill Software Updater in the task manager.  Fortunately, this time, no damage to my SSD.
