Software updater - Tried to update Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome and now my browsers are not loading

I ran Norton software updater to update Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome and it was taking forever (over 30 minutes and still no update), which led me to believe that Software Updater wasn't working, so I clicked on Cancel Update. Cancel Update itself was taking forever, so I decided to forget about Software updater and do a restart on my computer, so I could try and update directly from Edge and Chrome instead. When I restarted, Edge wasn't loading properly, so updating directly through the browser wouldn't work either. In frustration, I uninstalled it altogether, hoping to reinstall it through Chrome. I open Chrome and it isn't loading properly either! so now I'm screwed because I can't update chrome through settings either. What do I do? I can't access the internet without a browser (can't even reinstall Norton 360) and I'm panicking.

I've had my fair share of issues with Norton and browser updates too. Here's what I'd try to get you back online: First, if you've got another device like a phone or tablet, use it to download the installer for Edge or Chrome. Email the installer file to yourself, then open the email on your computer and run the installer. If that doesn't work, try opening Command Prompt as an admin (press Win + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)). Then use it to download the Edge or Chrome installer directly from their websites. Run the installer once it's downloaded. If that still doesn't work, you might want to boot into Safe Mode with Networking. Restart your computer and press F8 before Windows starts, then select Safe Mode with Networking. Try downloading and installing the browsers again from there.

Hello Marie06. Restore your computer to a date BEFORE you ran Software Updater, here is the Microsoft guide to follow:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/recovery-options-in-windows-31ce2444-7de3-818c-d626-e3b5a3024da5

Once done and you have restored to a functional computer, do not use Software Updater or Driver Updater again on your devices. The results will be a repeat of what you are now recovering from.

By default Edge will automatically update, you can check its settings using this guide:

Chrome, normally automatically updates in the background as well. You can also check its settings following this guide:
