Issue abstract:Norton seems to be blocking ads in my browsers.
Detailed description: In all my browsers (Firefox, Edge, Chrome, and Norton), ads are being blocked. This started just recently, maybe a day or two ago. How do I stop Norton from blocking ads? My Norton 360 control window does not seem to have an ad blocker control, though the Private Browser selection tells me how many ads it has blocked.
Product & version number:Norton 360 (can’t find version number. Is that the serial number?)
OS details:Windows 11
What is the error message you are seeing?Does not concern an error message.
If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:
my Norton v22.24.x.x does not block my Chrome/Edge/Firefox ads.
R U running Norton Secure VPN?
What browser extensions are installed/enabled?
What DNS resolver?
Maybe you run ad blocker program or extension??
Neither my Norton window on my computer nor my Norton homepage at their website look like that screenshot you included. There is no Help button. I went into the Help on my Norton window on my PC, but there was no “About” button to click on.
My browser extensions are only two: AI Grammar Checker and Video Download Helper. Can’t imagine them blocking ads. However, my AI Grammar Checker only started working properly today after having added it about three days ago. Maybe the same thing affecting the AI Grammar Checker was affecting ads. I haven’t used the Video Download Helper yet. I added it because RealPlayer video download sometimes doesn’t show up on video pages, and I thought Video Download Helper might be better.
I’m not familiar with DNS resolvers, so I don’t think I use one.
I don’t have an ad blocker that I know of, unless it is Norton doing the blocking. If I had a non-Norton ad blocker, why would a Norton page on my account show the number of ads blocked? How would Norton know how many ads were blocked if another ad blocker was blocking ads?
Anyway, ads seem to be back. I went to several webpages and saw ads for the first time in about three days. I run the Norton VPN, and turning that off and on had no effect on the ads.
I might add that the ads seemed to disappear about the same time I began working with Firefox support to solve problems whereby I could not sign on to Outlook, DirecTV, and sometimes Ebay. I did a restore original Firefox yesterday or the day before. I suppose that might have affected ads somehow.
I finally found out that Firefox is using its default DNS, whatever that might be. But it said that DNS is not used when VPN is on, which I normally have on.
Thanks. Yes. After right click, my Norton tray menu does look like that. I was just now able to bring up the small Norton 360 window, click About, and find out that my version is 22.24.7.8.
The Norton website will let me add a jpg, but when I click Reply, it says I can’t add a media item to a comment. Blasted software! Buy the menu looks just like what you posted.
Yes. Ads were being blocked, but the ads came back about 3 days after I noticed the problem. I am getting ads in website windows, which is what I want.
I am also now able to sign in to Outlook on Firefox.
The only problem I’m still having is not being able to view channels on DirecTV on my computer. That situation improved a bit. At first, Firefox wouldn’t even let me sign in to DirecTV. Now, it lets me sign in, but when I select a channel to view, it either churns away indefinitely, or says I can’t view that channel right now.
I want to consider this support case solved, even though it’s not completely solved. I learned a lot from this case, though. I can watch DirecTV on my Norton Private Browser, which is what I have been doing since last fall’s football season. Most of the time on Firefox, I can view a channel by clicking on the icon in the ESPN sports schedule for my team, or by searching for something like “Watch ESPN”. Sometimes, after doing that, Firefox will let me sign in to DirecTV and actually watch channels using that method. It’s a conundrum that defies explanation. I imagine it is a computer bug somewhere in the code.
